starting buying them for our upcoming trip. Will use for spending and meals I have to pay for. Even though doing the dining plan will still have to put some money in.

Can anyone give me a direction or a website to visit to learn more details about this kind of thing? (Disney Dollars I mean) When I booked my trip this kind of thing wasn't talked about, and I figured I'd get more complete and better advice here...

Not really much to learn. Disney Dollars are currency printed by Disney that can be used in place of cash at Disney World, Disneyland or Disney Stores. They can not be redeemed for cash unless you have your original purchase receipt (and there are some limitations on that).

Basically, they are a novelty that Disney sells to make some extra money. They know that some people will keep a few Disney Dollars as souvenirs and never redeem them.

Some people will buy Disney Dollars throughout the year as a forced savings plan for their Disney trip. That way, they can't go out and spend the money since it is only good at Disney. Also, some folks will give them as gifts to their kids to use for spending money while at Disney. I've also gotten them as gifts from friends or family who knew I would put them to good use.

Personally, we don't buy them because they don't really serve any purpose. I'd much rather save my money in an interest-bearing account rather than accumulate Disney Dollars. Plus, when we are at Disney, we use a credit card to pay for virtually everything. Doesn't make sense to pay cash (or Disney Dollars) and pass up earning the rewards points on the card.

If you ever get a gift certificate to a mall that has a Disney Store you can buy them with that! We did that and it was great! I cant stand the mall and dont buy much there so DDs were the best use I could possible get for my cert!

Before journeying to a store, confirm that it is still there as many have closed in the past couple of years and I'm not sure how up to date this list is.
