I saw a post about disney dollars before, but with the search function disabled, I cannot locate it again.

Could someone please advise me where I can purchase these Disney Dollars and what they can be used towards. DH and I plan on using our income tax return as spending money but we don't want to spend that money before the cruise.

Can you use these dollars for anything you can put on your KTTW card?

Thanks for any help.

You can pay your shipboard account with them, but it isn't a very safe way to travel. You can buy them at the Disney Store, and while they could only be spent on Disney properties, if you lost them or they were stolen, that is like cash. You'd be much better off to take you money and buy traveller's checks. They are much safer, and if have a travel emergency on the way......other establishments will take the travellers checks.

Yes you need to be carefull with them but I find it so easy to buy them and tuck them in our lock box. Being a part time preschool teacher my salary is very small but if I use it to purchase about 100 disney dollars every two weeks the money spent is not noticable (we survive on my DH's check mine is basically fun money) so over a 20 week period I can save 1000 disney dollars that I can't "blow" anywhere else but disney and when we cruise I don't have to think twice about what I spend as most of it is pre paid ! There is no sales tax or charge to get them, I just run up to the mall and write a check every other week. Yup you need to keep them safe but for us it is a great way to save, somehow if I put cash away it aways gets spent but the Disney Dollars can't be spent around here :)

Like my3kids said, they are like cash and can only be spent at Disney locations. If you have kids this is a great way to give them spending money. My two love them, because they have there own money. They have cute disney characters on them also. But if you don't have kids I would go with the travelers cheques, for safety and convinence reasons.

My sister and I took the Disney Dollars we had recieved for Christmas on our cruise. We used them to pay for our KTTW charges, and then used travelers checks or cash at the ports of call. One nice thing about the Disney Dollars is that you can go to Guest Services and trade them in for cash if you need to, or if you don't spend them all by the end of the cruise.

We have Santa, the Easter Bunny, the Tooth Fairy, Grandparents, Great-Grandparents, etc. trained. Our three kids get Disney Dollars on holidays!!! Each year we go the kids have a nice amount of money to spend. DH and I don't usually have to "buy them" a souvenier because they have their own money!!!

much easier to pay off the $100 charge for buying Disney dollars each month than to pay off $1,000 all at once
