Disney Dollars

Can somebody please explain Disney dollars to me? I read someone's trip report and it said they went to the local Disney store before they left to get some Disney dollars. I just became a member of the Disney Club, but this is the first I've heard of Disney dollars! We are planning a trip in October and VERY excited. This is our first. Thank you for any replies!

Disney $ can be purchased at your local Disney store and can be used in and around Disney just like real $. i purcahsed them and am using them as allowance for my 9 & 4 yr old DD's to give a little incentive. They don't cost any extra and are really cute!

D$ are one for one - there is no discount or anything. The only advantage is that they can only be spent a WDW, DL, Disney Store.

Caution - they are like real $$$ if you lose it - it is gone. They are not like travelers checks.

We find it a great way to help the kids save for WDW, by giving D$ for BD, etc...

Kim----also, if you purchased a package from any Disney resort with LoS passes, you are entitled to Disney $$ since you joined the Disney Club. I get $75 since I have the Discovery Magic Package. If you have the Resort Magic it's $50 Disney Dollars and if you have the Grand Plan I believe it's $100. I think those numbers and package combinations are right, but I'm sure your resort can tell you.

Yes, you can exchange them back to 'regular' money at the parks, Disney hotels or any Disney store.
I believe Disney is counting on most people to hang onto any left over Disney money so they usually make out in this set-up.
Right now I have a few Disney Dollars tacked to my bulletin board from 1998!

We found this to be a great way to set aside some money each month for our trip. One thing, there is a limit to how much the Disney Store will give you per visit.

we also use the Disney Dollars for Allowence and incentives for our DD. The toothfairy even brought her one!!

They come in various denominations so you can easily give only a small amount at a time.

Note on Stores. Yes they will only give out so many, usually this is because they only havce so many oin the store at a time. I have found that during the holidays and Peak seasons it is a more limited quanitity.

i like the idea about going and buying some to help save for the trip. Now I just have to restrain myself from using them in the store!!!

After reading posts my husband and I started saving Disney$ for our next trip. I thought it would be a good way to keep us from spending the money somewhere else before we go down.

I have a couple questions though. One, do they expire? If we don't use them this trip, can I save them for my next trip? And second, you mention that they can be used in WDW, does that mean ANYWHERE in WDW?? Can I use them in the resort food court and at food stands in the parks?

They never expire..

They are like real money, but they have cute disney characters on them.. You can use them anywhere in disney with the exception of a few restaurants in downtown disney.. The ones that are on disney property, but not truly owned by disney, this also applies to the few hotels on disney property but that are not owned by disney..

You can use them anywhere in the parks, including the snack stands.. You can even use them to pay for your hotel if you are staying at one of the resorts...

I have started going down to my local disneystore every other week when I get paid and buy $50 worth at a time.. I am saving $100 a month this way.. I am also putting some in my kids easter baskets next month and also buy extra for incentives, toothfairy, etc...

I have tried just saving money, but something comes us and I end up spending it.. With buying dd I know that wont happen...
