Disney Dollars? Or something else?

My kids both have birthdays coming up and we'll also celebrate Christmas before our trip in March. A few family members have mentioned wanting to get the kids some sort of a gift certificate for the trip, whether it be to a store/restaurant/or just Disney dollars (if they still do that?) Just wondering if anyone has any suggestions of ways that family members can give the kids "money" to spend??

Thanks in advance!

disney dollars would be great. they still have them and you can get them at disney stores in increments of 1,5, and 10.

For our first four trips, we went right after her birthday or xmas. She asked for and received lots of Disney Dollars. It's a great gift so they can get whatever they want at the parks!

I agree with the Disney dollars. They are adorable, and give the kids freedom to buy what they want at the parks. My kids think they are great, and can't wait to spend them on our upcoming trip.

The only potential problem is that the one and only Disney Store in our state (CT) is out of Disney dollars. The store had gift cards only, and reported that last time they were out of Disney dollars it took about 4 months to get them back in stock. After calling for weeks we went to NY to pick up or Disney dollars. It was worth it.

Your other option is ordering them online, but there is a $14 service fee.

Here's a couple more ideas.

If your kids like dinosaurs or you were planning on eating at T-Rex your family could buy gift cards online through their website. Besides eating they have the Build-A-Dino by Build-A-Bear Workshop.

If your kids are into character dining you could make a reservation for a meal, and your family could pay for it. We are doing this for my daughter. I booked an ADR at CRT. My family is going to give her an invitation to eat with Cinderella and a pair of light up Cinderella slippers that we got at the Disney store.

what is the difference between disney dollars and the gift cards? and can wither of them be used at t-rex?

No real difference in how to use Disney Dollars and Gift Cards, just Disney Dollars are an actual paper currency and a gift card can have more $ loaded on it. Plus a gift card you can keep the number and *possibly* recover the funds if you lose it. Since my DD is barely 4 we are giving her the dollars, they are so fun looking and she loves to sit down and count the bills.

Not sure if they can be used for T-Rex, but CVS now sells Landrys gift cards that are good at T-Rex, Rainforest and I think Yak & Yeti.

Ugh, well I knew there was only one Disney Store left in CT but didn't realize how long it could take to get Disney dollars. Gift cards are ok though too. So, with a gift card, they can use it anywhere in WDW, shops, stores, restaurants, etc???
