We're giving the kids their own money when we go at Christmas, they'll have about 200.00 each. 1 is 15 the other is 7. Would it be better to give them Disney dollars or for them to have a Disney card with the money on it?
My DD3 loved the Disney Dollars. Especially since she earned them for staying clean and dry each day. It worked for potty training anyway. I recommend the dollars, because I'd give DD3 about $10 at a time to hold in her bag, and I kept the rest just in case she lost it. It would have been very upsetting to lose all her $142 she had. For your teen the card might be fine, but for a younger child, I wouldn't let them hang onto the card, too easy for it to be all gone at once
I also liked the dollars, because it was teaching her to count the money out and she realized she was paying for it, a gift card I think she thought she was getting it for free, nothing being exchanged. She actually brought $31 home. She wanted the Cinderella light up shoes from the Disney Store. You can exchange DD at hotel on site front desk when you check out or in the park for cash.
I like the Disney Dollars better myself. I had a couple of them and tried to use them as payment for various things on my trip like tours and MNSSHP tickets. I had about 4 cards, each with $25 and was never able to use more than one per transaction. Maybe that had something to do with the way phone transactions are handle, I'm not sure.
Another thing I was told with the cards is that if you do a refund, you'll need the original card on hand. It seemed like a pain to hang onto all of the cards just in case.
