Disney doesn't and Expedia does???

Disney(WDW) is showing very little availability for rooms in March , but Expedia has much more available . Why??

Because Expedia gets a block of rooms to sell, similar to how conventions get a set number of rooms to sell. Years ago, I could not book the number of nights that I wanted for a stay/play/dine deal thru Disney but American Airlines Vacations had it. Same deal. Same resort.

We had a Disney cruise scheduled, wanted to stay at Port Orleans post cruise, non available, when I mentioned this to the cruise line, they said they had bought a block of rooms so we added thru them

And if Expedia doesn't sell all the rooms in their block some inventory may wind up as a deal on Hotwire.

Its also possible that Expedia doesn't really have those rooms. Something you'll only know once you attempt to book through them.
