I have a question about booking with Disney gift cards. I know I have heard of people doing it before but was just wondering if for some reason you have to cancel your cruise when it gets closer to the date would you have to get all that back onto gift cards or would you be able to get cash as a credit?
Reason I am asking is you never know what can happen obviously and the last thing I really would want would be 8 or $9000 in Disney Gift cards.

Everything is refunded to the original payment method. They even tell you on the ship to keep the cards in case there is a credit.

It’s not for you then. If you don’t want the money back as a Disney gc don’t pay with a Disney gc.

But what if you lose the original DGC? You’re still stuck with the refund as a DGC, you just have more hoops to jump through and a longer wait for the gc funds as Disney will issue you new gift cards. Under no circumstances will Disney refund purchases made with DGCs in any form other than DGCs.

Only put as much of the cruise on GC as you are willing to get refunded as GC if you cancel. Once you've got a Disney GC, that's how those funds stay is you cancel. Same goes for hotel and package bookings on land, too.
