I was looking at a beautiful stained-glass lamp of Cinderella Castle on DisneyDirect.com. I was very tempted to purchase, but the following warning was attached to the description -

WARNING: This product contains a chemical known to the State of California to cause cancer, or birth defects or other reproductive harm.

Can anybody elaborate on this for me? I was a little :earseek: when I saw it...we never get warnings like that in the UK. If it really is so dangerous, why on earth are they allowed to sell the product?

Thanks for any insight! :wizard:

I bought a boat hook and it said that to for lead. It scared the bananas out of me, I would consider it ok if your not gonna be licking it,

It probably has some lead in it. It's only dangerous if you injest a large amount.

California is notoriously extremely cautious about protecting it's citizens. Lots of really good laws have been based directly on laws initially on the California law books.

This most likely means this was painted with Lead based paints, so like another poster said - unless you're licking it every day or cutting it up to eat it, I think you're ok.

That warning is on everything--including Christmas lights, Christmas blow up stuff. I do not know what the material is...but it gives me the heebie jeebies that they have these warnings.

I guess CA has a law this must be disclosed on everything in the state and it is easier for manufactures to just include it for the other 49. I avoid that stuff when I can.

I know that for Christmas lights--it tells you to wash your hands after handling them.

It's probably LEADED STAINED GLASS. The lead is surrounding the pieces of glass and holding them together. As someone stated, unless you plan on eating it, you'll be fine.

THe same warning in on the Cinderella Waffle Iron - why would they use lead-based paint on something you use to prepare food????? :confused3

"THe same warning in on the Cinderella Waffle Iron "
Are you sure it's the paint that contains the lead? We have Halloween decorations with cords that have lead in them. So maybe the waffle iron is made the same way.
I make sure to keep my son away from them and wash my hands after handling the cords.

Actually, that warning is on pretty much anything that has an electrical cord.
::yes::
I've noticed that lately too.
Probably lead solder (the stuff they melt to hold wires together) on the wire connections.

Thanks for the replies everyone. The thing that struck me most is how certain the warning is. There is no "known to possibly cause..." or "may cause"

I still think I will give it a miss. IMO it's not worth the risk - even if it is minimal.

Then be sure not to handle pretty much anything with a cord, including xmas lights.

Anything with a flexible power cord or made from PVC will have that warning; here's a quote from one site:

"It has been asserted that handling electronic cables, wires
and cords with polyvinyl chloride (PVC) insulation or
jacketing may result in exposure
to lead or other substances identified by the state of
California to cause cancer or reproductive toxicity."

Unless your going "off the grid", I'd expect you'll be exposed to a power cord or OVC at some point anyways.

Just don't EAT the darned thing, or suck on the electrical cords.

:rotfl2: :rotfl: :rotfl2: This product has been known to cause electrocution when eaten or sucked!

I think it only applies when used in or bought in California. ;) lol

I bought rubber Mickey bracelets from DL last weekend and my receipt had the same warning on it.
