so you don't have to slug through a long drawn out report, I'll strip this down to the bare bones. Prices are total for the whole meal including tip.
Here is the Dining Report
Day One (late arrival):
Dinner:Lotus Blossom Cafe @ EPCOT (counter service) $18 -- I had chicken. Yorke had stir-fried beef meal with a chinese beer. -- Very filling, but a little bland.
Snack: boxed cookies from resort gift shop $4
Day Two (MK early entry, Epcot, Anniversary dinner):
Breakfast: coffee (bought the refill mug for $12)
Lunch: Lunching Pad @ MK-Tomorrow Land (counter service) $15 -- we each got a Turkey leg and a drink. -- Turkey tasty, but too much meat for us. We could have split one.
Snack: Dole Whips @ MK-Adventure Land (counter service) $6 -- yummy! try the pinapple!
Dinner: California Grill @ Contemporary Resort $217 -- I'll go into a little more detail on this one. we each had a gin and tonic (a little strong)
Throughout dinner we shared two half-bottles of Chateau de Montelena (my new favorite wine!!) Fun fact: It was the first U.S. wine ever tasted in Europe ($30/half bottle).
Appetizers: We shared the sundried tomato flatbread -- okay, but tasted a lot like pizza. Skip the breads and go for the bigger Sushi plate. The Sushi was the best we'd ever tasted (and Yorke's kind of a Sushi snob).
First Course: Yorke got the ravioli -- he liked it a lot, but I thought it was just "okay." I got the lentil soup -- pretty good flavor, but I like my lentils a little more pureed.
Main Course: Yorke had the short spare ribs -- very tasty and tender, and the flavored potatoes were wonderful, like nothing I've ever tasted. I got the Cal. Grill staple of Pork Tenderloin -- there's a reason this is the star dish. It was amazing! I practically licked my plate, and it's not even a dish I would normally go for.
Desert: we split a chocolate/banana bread pudding -- very good.
Our servers here were friendly and attentive, stopping by to chat for minutes at a time, even though they were busy. Food was served promptly -- not rushed, but no long waits between courses either.
Day Three: (AK, resort rest, MGM)
Breakfast: Kusafiri in AK (counter service) $10 -- located near the safari ride, this is a great stop on early entry mornings. We each had coffee and a big cinamon roll. very tasty.
Lunch: POFQ food court $14 -- he had pizza and I had a meatball sub with fries and pudding for desert. -- okay food, but I honestly think you get more for your buck in the parks (both in quality and quantity)
Dinner: POFQ food court $28 -- he had ribs and I had jumbalaya -- again, don't waste money at the food court.
Snack: kiosk in Fantasmic theater @ MGM $10 -- pretzels and hot chocolate. RIP OFF ALERT!!! At events and shows like Fantasmic, the "drink of choice" (like hot chocolate on a cold night) may only be available in a souvenier mug... so WDW can charge four times the price.
Day Four: (MGM, Epcot, MGM, Epcot)
Breakfast: coffee $0 (refill mug)
Lunch: Biergarten Buffet @ EPCOT-German Pavilian $60 -- we cancelled Coral Reef at the last minute (long story) and switched to Biergarten - no PS necessary! LOVED IT! But we just love German food! and beer!
It's mostly meat, potatos and kraut - not much variety for picky eaters. Beer overpriced and not included in buffet price. Becks was only beer on tap. Yorke got a HUGE mug for $9.50. My mid-size glass was closer to $7.
Snack: kiosk @ EPCOT-American Pavilian $16 -- funnel cakes and hot chocolate. Don't miss the funnel cakes at the American pavilian!!! Get fruit on top!
Well, that's it. Any comments? questions? I'll be writing a resort report later tonight... and look for my full trip report this weekend. It's a DOOZY!!!!!!
