Is it really worth the money??? DO people actually eat $40 a day in food at WDW? Our first trip last year to WDW, we went back to the resort each day for sandwiches for lunch ( I brought the stuff with us) How do others feel about the plan? Thanks!!

We are going in September, our first trip. We got the dinning plan after many friends here suggested it. In just planning for some of the Character Meals if you want to attend those it's well worth it. Just one dinner at some of those places is close to $30.00 per person. So yes, you woud easliy spend over $40.00 a day in food.

My guess would be like even just going to the local zoo where you might live that a meal can cost up to $10-$12 a person. Just for a drink, hamburger and fries. So I could see that even if you only ate 2 meals out a day plus some snack again it would easily get over $40.00 a person.

I am also excited about the options we have with it and the no hassel to just make plans with our travel agent ahead of time about where we will eat.

It depends. I'm a big fan, but we eat table service every day, and we would eat way more than $40 a day. If you just eat counter service, it's not worth it. The other thing to consider is that if you're paying for it (i.e., not going for free dining), you're paying rack rate for the room. You might be better off to try to get a room-only reservation with a code.

You can check out the menus with prices at allearsnet.com.

For example, for an MK day, you could eat a hot dog at Casey's Corner for $3.99, a cheeseburger, Coke and desert at Pecos Bill for $11 and dinner at 'Ohana for $30 ($26 plus $4 tip). That's $45 without really trying. If you get the Mushroom filet at Le Cellier for $27, or the $25 roast lamb at Restaurant Marakesh, then add drink appetizer and desert on top of it, you can blow past $40 in a meal pretty easily.

If you are comparing the plan to making your own meals then of course it is not a good plan, We normally eat at least one if not two and sometimes three sit down meal a day, the bill for one dinner for the two of us runs around $80 so any other meals that day on the plan counter service or snacks is gravy. and for some dinners it might be even more than $80.
now in snacks if you include cokes etc. we go way over the one pp. probably more like 4 snacks a day

You are able to get the dining package with a discounted room rate as long as you buy a minimum 1-day park ticket with the package - we did it at AKL lodge last year. However, in order to book free dining, you had to pay rack rate for the room.

The Dining Plan is definately worth it if you were planning on eating a few table service meals. We found that our TS bills were often more than $40 each (after taxes and gratuity).

We have been on the DP three times and it is awesome. My husband always keeps track of the receipts to see how much the meals would be out of pocket and we have always saved at least $500.00. We do enjoy good food and like to have at least one table service per day. My husband and four kids would look at me like I was crazy if I said "okay, let's leave the park and go back to the room for a sandwhich." I would likely be touring Disney by myself to the rest of the trip! lol
