No doubt you've all heard about the Free Dining Plan that's going on. Presumably its only for when you book a hotel so that counts out the majority od DVCers! is there any other way of taking advantage of the free dining plan?

For DVCers you have to pay for it i think its like $37 for adults per day, cant think off any way to do the free dining

No, but DVC negotiated the opportunity for DVC members to get on the Disney Dining Plan...I believe it is $37.99 for adults and $10.99 for children (3-9 years old). The cost is per night of the stay.

And the only way someone gets "free" dining is to pay rack rate at a resort. Not really free at all, and it would make no sense for Disney to give free dining to DVCers without any incremental revenue.

So if you want free dining, it is available to you. Just book the resort at rack rate and have at it! :)

The adult price goes up to $38.99 on January 1. The young child price stays the same next year.

We own DVC and I am taking advantage of the free dining. Of course we are staying at a non-DVC resort and adhering to the "buy a ticket" rules to get the free dining (even though I have an AP).

I am staying at a value resort (without husband, no way would he do this) with family next week. But after doing the math and trying to convince husband that we (he and I) can do the same next year if they have free dining, we decided it was not worth it if we did not stay at a value. And we really do not like to stay at values (esp him!). So this will probably be the only year I do this.

it would be nice to be able to pay the dining in points say each day will cost an adult 5 points. does anyone else like the idea? i know disney will probaly never go for it

I don't think that points can be used for anything except accomodations, as they represent a real estate interest.

I'm not sure that there is a hard-and-fast rule along those lines. I suspect that if it was in Disney's interest to allow us to use them in that manner, they would, as they allow us to use them for the Disney Cruise and Disney Adventures, both of which include things other than accommodations. They could probably package admission and food with your room, when you stay on points, for example, thereby matching what you get with the Disney Cruise. So I suspect the sticking point is that it doesn't really help Disney to offer that. If they could readily convert every point traded for admission into much-needed accommodations for guests that would have otherwise stayed off-site, then I bet we'd seem them offer that. However, I think that the chances that that would ever be the case would be precluded by the fact that they'd have to offer it for all DVC resorts evenly.

It is possible to rent your DVC points for a year and use the $$ to book a MYW package with dining via. CRO.
