Disney Dining Plan Question

Hi all, still trying to learn the ins and outs as I'm a fairly new member who is just planning our first trip to Disney. Does anyone know if you stay off-site if you can still take advantage of the Dining plan?

We had originally planned to stay at a Disney Resort (and that would still be our dream), however, a relative has recently let me know that she owns a timeshare in Orlando 10 minutes from Magic Kingdom and we may be staying there to save a great deal of money...which I know is a good thing (especially in my husband's eyes! LOL), but doesn't stop me from dreaming about staying at a disney resort :cloud9: . I have priced packages with the resort, tickets and DDP but wasn't sure if you can still get the DDP without the resort? Any info would be appreciated!

:cheer2:

No, I'm sorry. You can only get DDP if you're staying on site.

From mousesavers.com: Dining Plan

Disney offers a prepaid Dining Plan at Walt Disney World that can be a good value. However, it is ONLY available when you purchase a Magic Your Way vacation package that includes accommodations at a Disney-owned-and-operated hotel plus at least a 1-day theme park ticket per person.

That's what I was afraid of - thanks for the very quick response!

We will be staying onsite at the Disney All-Stars Movie Resort for one week but are moving to offsite accommodation after that for a further 3 days. We are hoping to purchase the 10 Park entry tickets. Would they only give us a 7 day DDP? Does the pricing all get calculated separately?

No you can't but the dining plan really isn't worth it, according to most who get it.

What is your motivation? As a newbie have not yet seen any recommendations to the contrary, but I suppose that is because I have been trawling the threads in favour of it? Can you shed some light on this please?

There's a lot of back and forth about in on these boards.

We've done with and without, and will always choose to get it in the future. It's not that it's a money saver-- we pretty much break even. But I do love the convenience of prepaying, and then not having to look at the prices. It suits the way we travel.

You would be best off looking in the dining plan section of the restaurants boards, rather than posting on an 8 year old thread in the Welcome to the Dis section :)

You only get the 1 night of dining plan per night of resort stay, tickets aren't really matched to that at all (you can get a 2 day ticket on an 8 night package and you would still have to buy 8 nights of dining plan). You have to work pretty hard to make the dining plan a value (it can be done, but half the time I don't want to work that hard, or eat that much).
