Disney Dining Plan if not at a Disney Resort?

Can you buy a dining plan if you are not staying on Disney property?

(we are Disneyland regulars going to Disneyworld this time it is so much more complicated, lol!)

I believe you have to be staying in an official, on-site WDW resort in order to get the one of the dining plans.

However, one option you might want to look into is the Tables in Wonderland card. It costs money up front and you can only purchase it if you have an annual pass, but you can save a % off the bill at several on-site restaurants.

Tables in Wonderland is an alternative to the Disney Dining Plan, but it is only available for purchase if ONE of your party holds an Annual Pass or is a Florida resident. The cost for one year is $100 for Florida Residents and $75 for Disney World Annual Passholders.

BTW, I agree with you. I took my 18yoDD to Universal in March, specifically to see The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, and the first thing I did was buy us the dining plan, we def got our money's worth! Changes are made to the DDP every year though, so who knows? I never understood their refillable drink mug policy, it's only been included in the quick service plan, or the deluxe plan and up, skips right over the basic ddp. But for 2012, it will be part of all of them.

The TIW card entitles the user and up to 9 others in his/her party to receive a 20% discount on ALL food and drink (including alcoholic beverages). There is an automatic 18% gratuity ( 20% at Victoria & Albert's) added to your bill regardless of your party size.
