Wanted to make sure I get this right. My fiance and I will be getting married in the world in Feb. With the DDE card if we have a nice sitdown dinner the card will take off 20% the entire dinner; not just my plate right?

Just a quick side note.... we found out the hard way this weekend that Teppan Edo does NOT take the DDE card.

But for everything else, yes, 20% off for the whole check, not just your plate. And starting next year, it will automatically add an 18% gratuity.

OK. Let's all stand back! popcorn::

Yes, STAND BACK, cause I am PO'd about this!!!!!   I got the card so I could "experience" nicer resteraunts, that I would Normally not go to, and thanks to this, I will be saving VERY LITTLE off my bill. THANKS A BUNCH, Disney, for ruining something else for me....:sad2:

OK, I'm not trying to start a fight here, but wouldn't you normally tip at a TS anyway? :confused3

I'll put my flame suit on now.....

Yes, but what if we had gotten not so great service, or they ignored us for 15 min, or they forgot an entree, are we STILL forced to pay the 18%???? :confused3

If the service is that bad, I would ask for the manager and have them adjust it.

But you said you got the card to "experience nicer restaurants" but now "you will be saving VERY LITTLE"

I just don't see how adding an automatic 18% gratuity really changes what you are saving unless you weren't planning to tip to begin with....

I agree. If my service was poor, I would ask for a manager, explain to him/her about my service and ask for it to be reduced. Simple as that.

BTW, for me, it will actually save me some money. We usually tip 20% and sometimes up to 25% if the service is really good.

I usually tip 20% too, so it will be saving me money as well, since I don't plan to sit there and calculate what 2% of the bill is...

As an aside, I have a friend who brings a calculator with her every time she goes out to eat and she calculates exactly 12% to leave as a tip for "great" service. (I have no idea how she came up with that number) If the waitress doesn't greet her within 5 seconds of her sitting down, she starts deducting from the tip. It drives me absolutely batty.... so much so, that I avoid going to lunch with her at all costs if I can help it... and when I do go, I always tip extra b/c I know she is going to cheap out. I understand tipping is a way to thank your server for good service, but some people have ridiculous expectations.

Agreed...it isn't like they're going to break your thumbs if you ask the manager to adjust your bill. As a matter of fact, I've actually been to restaurants where if the food was sub-par, they'd actually take the cost of the offending dish off your bill!! I'm sure we've all experienced that...

People seem to be treating this auto-18% like it's an affront to humanity or something...

The tip has nothing to do with the DDE card. It will be across the boards...you will still be getting a discount with your card from what you would pay without it.

Geez - the 12% tip with its reductions is the affront to humanity.

Tell me about it.... it's embarassing at time to go to lunch with her. I feel like I should be apologizing to our server as we leave.

I can't tell you how many times I have gone out with her, she has sat down, looked at her watch and then 15 seconds later when the server hasn't come by (even though she is clearly visible at another table taking an order during the jam-packed lunch rush) she says "There goes her tip". She's a great friend, but a lousy lunch buddy. I just don't get people like that....:confused3

It is my understanding that Disney clarified their policy to state that the auto-grat is being added on when you use your DDE card, and that it is not completely across the board (whether you use your DDE or not). Am I wrong?

No...you're right. I received the email personally and it only made mention of DDE members. How it got so blown out of proportion is anyone's guess!

You are right, DDE even sent out a clarifying email over the weekend to help clear up some of the confusion.

DDE - Auto Gratuity at TS and Lounge (for all party sizes)

No gratuity at CS locations

(it remains in effect for parties of 6 or more at all TS - regardless of how you're paying)

What if you are a larger party? The card said its good for parties of up to 10 but we will be a party of 12 one night (2 families). Can we ask for 2 bills (even though we are one table) so the our family can still use the DDE?

Sved over $600 with family of 10 in 5 days in May with the DDE.

Our vacation starts on 12/22.......

Most of our vacation will be done by New Year's- so we'll be under the old rules until then.

Even with the holiday black out days during our trip (12/24-25, 12/31 - 01/01), we'll still do well on savings- and we used to tip the discount back.

My DH will be the first one to dispute the 'included gratuity' if he doesn't get at least minimally good service, and we won't be trying to tip the other 2% to make it a 20% tip either.

If service is really good- we'll find a way for the server to benefit, but I guess Disney is doing this to provide parity with the DDP people who will no longer have the tip included (or the appetizer) in their plan. However, from what I seem to understand about the DDP- they don't have a 'mandatory tip' included in their bill next year like DDE members will.

Don't you get the feeling sometimes that they're cutting off their nose to spite their face? And it's not Disney that will be feeling the pinch. It's the servers.

Now I'm wondering if the receipts will have another line that's labeled 'additional tip'.

Hold on- I've got to get my flame suit on.....
