Disney Dining Experience

OK, this may not be on the up and up but I have an AP voucher from a couple of years ago when I had originally planned a couple of trips in one year but when we had to cancel one I just kept the voucher and bought a My Way 10day Non expire pass. So I could get the DDE card with just the voucher? I am not sure when or if I will turn it into an acitivated pass in the next few years.

All I gave them was the character sequence off the back of my AP voucher, but I did activate my AP a month later anyways - however they could not have known that I would, beyond telling them.

I'm sure you could not use the same voucher to get a DDE card twice. I don't know if there is an "expiration" to a voucher with regards to the DDE.

Is the 20% discount taken off the total or each individual item? And is there a list around that will list the restaurants you can use the discount at?

Thanks

What difference would it make if the 20% came of the total or individual items? :confused3

Usually the discount comes off the pre-tax subtotal and then the tax is adjusted to the "new" subtotal. The alcoholic beverages are adjusted seperately, as well.

But either way where F=Food, A=Alcohol and Tx=Tax

(F-20%) + (A-20%)+(Tx-20%)=Total-20%

AllEars has a PDF file that lists what discounts are valid where, including DDE, here

I think you actually have to pay tax on the pre-discounted price...I'm not sure, but I know that's the law in most states. So if the item is 10, and the discount is 20%, and the tax is 6%, you pay:

(10*.80)+(10*.06)= 8.60

That will vary by state.

In Texas, we pay the full tax on an item if we use a "coupon" but if the actual "price" is discounted, then the tax is figured on the "Discounted" price. My DDE receipts last year had a tax adjustment on the discounted price.

The same as if a store had a 20% off sale. For instance, if jeans retail for $10, but a store runs a sale or special for $8, you pay tax on the $8, not the $10.

Thanks a lot! :headache:

Now I've got to go back and rerun all my numbers again ;)

Stupid different Florida tax laws!

Seriously though, thanks. That will make some (minor) difference in our figuring.

In our state, if the STORE charges you less (on sale) you pay tax on the lower amount.

If YOU provide a discount (coupon, "frequent buyer club", etc) to the price the store is charging, you pay the tax on the full retail price.

I am planning on ordering DDE today for a 9/28-10/8 trip - one question: is it good for 12 months TO THE DAY, from the day they issue it, or until the end of the 12th month after I purchase it? Does that make sense?? I've seen different things on DIS about this and am confused. :sad2:

In other words, does it make a difference whether I order it on 8/1 or on 8/15 (for instance), or would it be good until THE END OF August 2008 regardless? Did that make my question even less clear? ;) :lmao:

I just got off the phone with Disney, and she said that if I order today, the expiration date would be 8/31/08, while if she holds my reservation until Monday (August 6th), the expiration date will be 9/30/08. Not sure I'll ever FULLY get how this works, but I'm obviously opting for holding until Monday!

I was getting caught up in the DDE timing issue when I ordered it a couple of days ago. The CM asked me if I wanted to call back in a few days to extend the date to 13 months instead of the normal 12. I almost said yes until I realized that we won't be back to WDW between the 12 and 13 month mark so what difference does it make. We normally don't renew our AP or DDE cards, we let them expire then schedule our next vacations to take advantage of 2 trips per AP or DDE card.

It really is simple and your answer from DDE explains it all. There was a bit of misinformation earlier in this thread. The DDE cards are not good 12 months from printin date. The expiration is always the end of a month. But if you order late enough in the month (and not very far into the month per your example), the expiration date will be the end of the following month.

I understand the idea of the following month timing, I just meant that it seems like the date is pretty random - Aug 6th? :confused3 Almost seems deliberately oblique and what they print on their forms is actually not accurate (“The DDE Membership card is valid for 1 year. The validation period starts from the date when the card is mailed to the recipient.”). That I find odd, but hey, as long as the CM's will clearly communicate the cutoff dates, no problem, I guess?!

IMO, Disney really should just print accurate information on their forms and website about the expiration. Why make things unnecessarily unclear?

Anyway... since we plan to go back early in Sept '08, it was worth waiting until the 6th to book. :)

The cards are printed by an outside firm. From what I've been told, DDE does one data dump per month. Assuming that this month's dump occurs on 8/5/07, all cards will be printed and mailed by 8/31/07. Expiration date will be 8/31/08. So the information printed is accurate.

Orders placed from 8/6/07 until the early-September cutoff will be printed and mailed by 9/30/07 and valid until 9/30/08.

CMs working in the DDE office always know those cutoff dates and will happily provide them when asked.

A question, oh great wise one(s) of the DIS...

Last year we had actual AP vouchers. This year when I ordered our AP's off of DVCmember.com, we decided to just pick them up at will call. Will I be able to order the DDE card with the confirmation from the AP purchase or should I call and have the vouchers sent to us? We were planning on doing DDP but since then we've decided that it's just too much food and we'd rather have the DDE card.

Thanks!
