OK. I decided to be a smartie and ask the DH to make some dining reservations since he gets so irritated with me when I tell him he can't have the times he plans. He always says "what is so hard". So I say "ok honey, you call and book the reservations". AND of course HE gets EVERYTHING and every time he wants. I was so ticked!

OK I digress.

One thing is the CM helping him asked him for his reservation number. Now I have called numerous times to Disney Dining and never been asked for my actual reservation number. I have always been asked where we are staying, what is the checkin date and our telephone number. So I never even thought to give him the reservation number when I asked him to call. He said the CM was a bit terse with him and asked him to call back with the reservation number at some point. WHAT? Does anybody know what this is about or is DH just confused.

Thanks for letting me rant, mostly I am ticked that Hubby gets the times and dates he wants when I call and can't get what I want! UGH!

Sorry, can't help you here. When I made my ADRs, I entered my reservation number into the automated system, so they only asked me where I was staying.

This actually happened to me the first time I tried to make our ADR's at 7:00 am at the 180 day mark and I was not happy. I tried to explain that my reservation was through AAA, so the only # I have is the AAA confirmation #, which is not the # Disney would have. He insisted he needed the reservation #.

I called back when I got to work at 8:30 and the woman I spoke to took my phone #, found our reservation, confirmed we were on the Dining Plan and booked all of our ADR's with no problem.

I have been asked for it before.

Was he calling for an ADR more than 180 days out and they are verifying you are eligible to book +10?

Nope he was calling for this November. What does "eligible to book +10" mean?

I have had to enter my telephone number into the phone, and of course then they ask for it again. Another thing that set him off since he's a telephone analyst and builds the software design to make the telephone and computers talk to each other. He said if you enter it once then you shouldn't have to ask for it all over again. :rolleyes1 Needless to say, he won't be taking over the "book the dining reservations" job from me! :lmao:

That's interesting that they ask for a reservation number and get upset when you don't/can't give one. I can see why they would do it to check for 180 +10, but when you are within the 180 days, anyone can make an ADR, including guests who are not staying on-site (I am pretty sure). I wonder how CMs deal with offsite guests when they are unable to provide a reservation number?

180 + 10 is: you can book your ADR's 180 days prior to your arrival. If you are staying on-site, you can book for up to the first 10 days of your stay.

If you give your reservation number, or a telpehone number then they can tie all your ADRs together. This serves several purposes. If you loose your list then they can give them to yu agisn, and when you arrive at the resort then you can ask for a printed sheet with the ADRs. If you are booking in advance of the 180 window they can check eligabilty. They are also able to tie up dupklicate bookings, to stop people booking several resturants when they will use only one, as we have seen some people on this board are happy to do.

From what a gathered from a CM onthe phone, some have been getting in trouble for not doing it and booking at thr 180+10 for non resident guests (who claimed they were staying onsite) and by not taking them for failing to pick up duplicate bookings.

I booked a holiday with the free ddp with Virgin Holidays. Rang them up and got the disney reservation number so I could put it in the automatic number bit of the dining reservations. Then used that to book DME as well.

:cool1:

We stay offsite and I make a dining reservation for one meal ever trip. I've only had to enter my phone number and have told the reservationist that we were staying offsite. No problems at all.

As far as having to give the phone number again after you've entered it, that's usually for verification purposes. It happens with other phone in systems as well. If you've entered an incorrect phone number, the verification will take care of that immediately.

Never ever had to give my reservation # to Disney Dining. Including just last week when we made 6 ADR's for our December trip.

I enter my reservation number too..they have also asked me for it.

Last week, the automated system asked for the reservation number or the phone number. Then the CM asked me for a ressie number in order to book past the 180 day mark (+10). She said they had to enter it in order to get a reservation confirmation past the 180 days.

The last two times I called to do my 180+10 ADRs, I've been asked for my reservations number. Since only onsite guest can do the 180+10, Dining is just making sure you do indeed have a reservation. I had to do it for my October 2007 trip and my December 2007 trip. Fortunately I was able to log into the DVC website from my office and pulled up my list of upcoming reservations and gave them the number. Now I know to have it handy when making my 180+10 ADRs.

When I did my 180+10s last month for December. I entered my phone number when prompted. I have had to give it to the CM on the phone as well - for some reason they don't have it, or they are confirming it. But I've never HAD to give my reservation number - they've always found me with the phone number, but I've had my reservation number at hand if needed. They never find me by name because they use various permutations of "O'Neill", even if I spell it for them.

I don't know if the fact that I'm a DVC member makes any difference.

I have been asked before, but when I tell them I don't have it, they tell me that a phone number is fine, too.
