Congrats to your family for making such a big decision. My InLaws recently took in my nephew for a few months. My BIL travels a lot for work and DN is his son from his first marriage. My SIL decided she couldn't handle he and the two kids they have together. DN is a teenager and doing all the typical teenage things plus he had more responsibility than others I know.
My IL weren't happy about the financial aspects (BIL offered NO money to help out) as they are on a fixed income, but family is family. DH is one of three boys, we all offered to take in DN. My parents even offered to have him live with them!
He is now back home but we are not sure for how long. Seems each time BIL goes away he ends up at the ILs at least for a few nights.
Just offering your niece some stability and a good example of how a family can be is important, even its just for a short time. Good for you- its a brave move.
