No ibuprofen (increases bleeding). Take Tylenol, elevate it, ice it. If it isn't better in a day, call your doctor. Watch out for red streaks, hot red areas, and a fever. Don't want the vein to get infected. Also, watch out for swollen sqishy areas. Feel better! A glass of wine or beer wouldn't hurt either...;)

Thanks for the tips I appreciate them.

I'm recovering from donating blood tonight. Like always my fingertip has turned black and blue from the needlestick. My arm is in pain because they didn't listen to me and they took the blood out of my left arm instead of my right arm. So now it is in pain and brusied as well.

Do you have any tips Denise? I have already iced it since I have been home.

Becky
Ugh, today must be the day for bad "lab" experiences. I had a traumatic experience also :(. Hope you feel better soon.

Bengalbelle-I hope you feel better as well.

I was trying to do my good deed for the day. I have donated blood many times before. As long as the take it out of a certain vein I am fine, every time they don't I am in pain for a while or they try to stick me twice before finally deciding to listen to me.

They just didn't want to listen to what I was telling them. I guess they figured I was young, dumb and clueless and they didn't want to take it out of a vein almost at the side of my arm and instead the chose one in the middle that is very deep. Funny thing is the lady in the prescreening room said I had great veins, yet when she was trying to find one later she couldn't find anything. So somebody else did it then. Yeah well hopefully next time I get somebody who will be nice and listen to me.

Thanks :)
I feel fine now - it was just the experience. I'm always having blood drawn so I'm not squeamish at all, but I'm not exaggerating when I say I'm a bit traumatized. I have learned that from now on I'm sticking up for myself (no pun intended).

I always have trouble giving blood too! When I was pregnant with Julia I got gestational diabetes - you should have seen my arm after the test!! It was absurd -

while pg with Nick I had surgery for a kidney stone and I knew to tell them to use a butterfly needle - the first couple of times they wouldn't listen but I finally got forceful about it -

good thing I am not squeamish about it b/c one time a lab tech spent a least a minute moving the needle around trying to find a vein!!

But I was the least of their worries because someone passed out right before I sat down in the chair to give and someone else passed out right before I was finished. So the other people became the priority. But their has to be a less painful and more accurate method out there. Perhaps not invented yet though.

Me too with the needle! I give blood and a needle is fine with me... BUT when having DD and getting ready for a C-section, one butcher was trying to get the needle in the spine and kept missing!!! Then after a bunch of trys, they got someone else and they did it 1st try! I cried from then till hours after delivery. One nurse finally saw I was having a bad reaction to the pain killer and changed it, I stopped crying! :confused3 Man that was crazy!!

Excuse me while I ask.....

FINALLY - she takes my side!!!!!!!

Although I think you might have missed some mischief I caused!

Including a signature for Denise declaring me her hero and a picture of her kids in LSU outfits -

normally I am an  but tonight I might have been a little bit :maleficen

Thanks to DisneyEveryYear and MazdaUK for their quick comments to my last post. :)

What has everyone been voting in the poll about the setup of the new merged board? :confused3 I didn't notice any comments in that thread by anyone I recognized from this thread.

It looks like option 5 would probably be best (?), and seems to be the most popular based on the comments in that thread.

Hello everyone! I'm still alive! :teeth:

I got so far behind on ..well...everything, that I couldn't really keep up anymore and I felt lost. I've slowly been trying to catch up with this thread. Anyone want to give me a Cliff's Notes version? :cool1:

I just wanted to say "thank you" to those who asked about me. You really made my day.

Hey there Midnite! So good to see you! Your shirts sure made our trip nice. Lots of compliments. I'll have to get off my duff and post the rest...... :goodvibes :cheer2:
