Disney Day of Service

Back on topic now...

(I got so distracted by the thoughts of cookies that I forgot to ask my question...)

I signed up for the GA-based Project Linus yesterday evening. Does anyone know how long it will take to get a response? Is there any chance they are no longer accepting people? I'd really like to get started on my blankets, but want to make sure I'm accepted and what their "rules" are for this project.

We did ours last weekend and got an email from the organizer that she sent the info to Disney. We go in March so not in to much of a hurry.

If anyone is using the tickets before March would love to hear how it goes getting the passes validated at WDW. Wondering how early we should get there and be prepared to wait in line....

update...vouchers were sent to us today so dropped blankets off on Friday and got vouchers on Tuesday!

They are suppose to get back to you within 5 days. I wouldn't get started until you find out the requirements. It seems like they are different for each area. The Orlando based Project Linus wants 2 single layer fleece blankets 2 yards long each.

The requirements for the GA project Linus are right there where you sign up.

I signed up, myself and DH, to work at the Ronald McDonald House in one of our local hospitals. I got an email back from the director today saying that we have to apply, go thru a 2hr class, then shadow for 3 hrs and then volunteer. This is an on going volunteering. They won't do only one day to get a day, even though they are on the Disney website. We are AP holders, so we will get FP's. After talking to DH, we decided to do it. I filled out the application to volunteer for both of us and emailed them back. I am just waiting to hear if we are approved. The class is Thursday night. It will be an eye opening experience we are looking forward to. We are disapointed that our 2 DS's can't participate. Well they could if we cook a meal and take it. Wish us luck we get approved.

Well, I got an email back from the director, and we were both approved. The class is Thursday night for 2 hours, then we will schedule the shadowing and then the actual volunteer shift.

{..ff..}

This is actually a different location than the one I signed up with. Guess I will just wait to hear from them to see what their requirements are. I went ahead and started working on a quilt today. If it doesn't work for this project, I can still give it to the nursery at our church to use.

I signed my family up last night for a volunteer opportunity. We are collecting goods for children in foster care. We just have to collect five items per person from the list they provided and drop it on our "volunteering day".

very excited to participate...:yay:

The Project Linus requirements do vary. For the fleece option, mine wants single layer ones, but 6 per person, not 2.

I ordered fabric online, and it was fun picking out the various fleece patterns!

I received my vouchers yesterday. Took 4 days to get them from the time I turned my blankets in.

I received mine on Thursday and I don't even think the blankets arrived until Wednesday. Not bad at all, can't wait to use them in a few weeks. :thumbsup2

Our family was approved for our volunteer day today!!! :cool1: We will be helping Planned Pethood with their annual rummage sale. We will be sorting and pricing items prior to the sale.

Does anyone have any idea how an upgrade to these vouchers work? Say I want 4 day tickets. Is the price just reduced by the cost of a one day tickets?

I would LOVE to do this opportunity!

Still looking for something for 3 of us to do.

A new food drive popped up, but the requirement is 200 pounds of food per person and it falls right on the heels of scouting for food that all 3 of my boys are involved in.

Still waiting for an opportunity.....

i signed up for one about 2 weeks ago and heard nothing. so, i signed up for a different one and again i have heard nothing.

i am not liking this. i think the birthday thing was so much easier. i can't log into my account to manage it or anything. i have emailed disney and they emailed back telling me to resign up with a different email. well, fine but, i have my dh on one computer and me on the other. so, everytime i try to do anything it knows we are on there.

getting really frustrated and there isn't a phone number around to call.....

Those of you having such a hard time finding anything, why not just do Project Linus? There are plenty of them that will accept mail in donations. This may be your easiest option.

Our troop all got their vouchers, and we are good to go!

I'm trying to figure this out, too, but can't find ANY info on it. For those of you that have the vouchers, does it say anything in regards to how much "credit" you get when upgrading?

Our family has signed up for five different opportunties, and it's been far more than 5 days since we did. We have heard nothing from any of them. :confused3

We signed up today and are going to clean up a beach in NH next month. It is for 2 hours and the 4 of us and even the baby is going to go too!! I figure she can tag along the beach with us in the Baby Bjorn and it will be fun!! We can't wait.

We just finished our day of service. For 3 hours, we relocated, sorted and organized donations (clothes, cleaning supplies, toys, school supplies, etc.), that will go to families in the surrounding area who are in need. DH put together shelving and moved furniture, etc.
Feels good:thumbsup2

We did ours today too! I took DS7 to Dollar Tree on Friday and found GREAT stuff for about $35 (including a few things for us and he contributed $7 so he helped pick stuff out.) Then yesterday we hit the clearance racks at Kohls and stuffed TWO bags of infant and toddler clothes - mostly shirts and PJs - for under $70! I was comfortable with spending about $100 altogether and I was very pleased with what we got. I also put in a few things DD1 outgrew before wearing them.

When we drove down to Wall Township today to drop it off, the kids and I got a bit lost (note to self: ALWAYS call the place you are going if possible; Google Map bites!!) I'm pretty wiped because altogether I drove 90 miles to get to someplace 60 miles away...but at least coming home went better.

They said I should get my vouchers sent out this week! We will do a day at MK on our already-planned August trip to those "other" parks. ;o)
