Disney Day of Service

Has everyone been getting a response within the five days for the programs you are interested in? I haven't heard back from mine yet and would really like to get the ball rolling.

I didn't hear from the charity I agreed to help and I found their website and sent an email. I guess they weren't planning on contacting people until closer to the event, but she did say they needed our help, etc...... I wonder if these places know they are suppose to contact people within 5 days??

The first one I signed up for didn't get back to me for 8-9 days. By that time, I had already signed up for another one. The second one got back to me in 1-2 days.

Hi, We just completed twelve crochet blankets for the animal shelter (they required four blankets per person). This took hours and hours of crocheting, lol, but is so worth it. Even if we don't go to Disney this year, this is for a good cause and I plan to continue crocheting cat blankets whenever I can, even though we fulfilled our obligation for the vouchers.

I just shipped them out today priority mail, so should be receiving the email for the voucher in a few days.

Here are the blankets and my cat posing with the blankets.

I am a seamstress and we were excited to see Project Linus as one of the opportunities. I signed up with the Orlando chapter as our local chapter is not participating and my husband grew up in Orlando.

My kids are over the moon about picking out fabrics. Most likely we will not be going to Disney this year (sadly) but there is a slight chance of a quick visit in the fall-otherwise we will donate the tickets to the boys and girls club of central Fl.

I love having this opportunity to volunteer and give back!

We volunteered at a county warehouse sorting and packing goods being sent to Haiti.Tomorrow will be two weeks since we went and we still haven't gotten verification on the Hands on Network website, does anybody know what happens if in a couple of days it's still not showing.

:goodvibesWe just finished our service we passed out flyers for a local epilepsy camp. We had a lot of fun and it opened up alot of good conversation. Id like to do the kits for the homless just to do it. It makes you fell good to help out even if your not getting something in return.

We made "welcome baby bags" through Modern Woodmen in Bangor, Maine. It was like picking out a baby shower gift! The bags go to new moms to help them get started, especially teen mothers or moms who are struggling financially. It was fun for me to shop for baby items, and I got pink things since my family seems only able to have boys! They asked for 1 bag per two people. I haven't printed my voucher yet, but I received my verification email.

We made blankets for Project Linus too.

I just want to say what you all probably already know; these blankets, and crafty goodie bags, etc mean a lot. DD has spent way too many days/nights in the hospital over the last 3 years. Mostly at CHoP, Childrens in Philadelphia. (75 days in 2007 alone, (NOT in a row) and several stays in 2008 and 2009, has 2 operations scheduled in the next 2 months). And many kids practically live there, they are inpatient for 6 straight months, or more getting treatment.

Anyway, they did give us blankets made by volunteers, and pillowcases, and they had craft goodie bags in the Ronald McDonald rooms inside the hospital. Sometimes I was at the hospital for weeks straight, and I would pick up these items to bring to DD, to distract her somewhat. I never really noticed what group they were from, Iw as so overwhelmed, and tired, etc.

Now it is nice to make some for other kids...... I never even heard of Project Linus before this Disney program, and I hope to make them for years to come. And picking out the fleece is SO much fun!

I am irritated and I'm looking for my third volunteer op. You'd think that if you signed up to be a participating agency that you would actually email the volunteers or return phone calls. This is becoming more of a PITA than a fun volunteer opportunity.

I just looked this one up and asked if I could mail a baby goody bag to her. Out of all the ops, this one looks like the most fun! Who doesn't like to shop for baby goodies? :)

No. I signed up on Jan 2 and did not hear until last week. Our day is this Saturday, Feb 20. I have now received 3 emails about it in 2 weeks. We are ready. We were supposed to spend 4 hours each collecting clothes and small appliances. We have been hounding our friends for a couple of months but we have the back of DH pickup full of bags.
