Hi Everyone,

I was inspired by a dance video to coordinate a fun event for everyone at the Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World. The idea is to have everyone arrive at the Magic Kingdom on main street and then at a set time break out into a coordinated dance. Only the people here reading this post will know about this, so the average Disney guest will not be in on this.

Here is a link to a professionally choreographed commercial that is the same type idea:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VQ3d3KigPQM

What I need help with:

1. Someone that is a dance choreographer to submit a 2-3 minute dance routine. If we could do this to Disney music clips that would be even better. This routine needs to be fun and something that the average person, like me, can learn.

2. I need you. We will need at least 500 people that are willing to learn the 2-3 min routine.

FAQ:

Q: Do I need to be a professional dancer?

A: No, you just need to be willing to learn the dance routine and have fun. If you are a professional dancer I could use your help and would like to have you placed at certain places on main street so others that are participating can see you to follow along if they have forgotten parts of the routine.

Q: How will I know what the dance routine is?

A: I hope to have several people submit routines that we will choose from. I will then post the video of the selected routine on the web so everyone can get a copy to practice it at home.

Q: I am a professional dancer and would like to take part in the dance routine, what do I do?

A: First you will need to learn the routine once it is posted on the web, just like everyone else. I am looking for as many people with a dance background as we can get to spread out on main street at the Magic Kingdom so they can start the dance when the music starts as leaders and so others can follow along as needed.

Q: When is this?

A: I am hoping 6-12 months from now but that depends on when I get a routine that can be posted and then allow for time to people to learn the routine. I also have to get Disney to play the music in the Magic Kingdom on main street.

Q: What if the Magic Kingdom will not play the music on main street at the set date and time?

A: I am hopeful that Disney will see this as something fun and once I send them the dance routine and info. on how many fans will be participating I think that will help. If not a backup plan would be to all do this at boardwalk, Downtown Disney, or some other public Disney area that we can setup a speaker system at. Either way there will be some work getting permissions. So anyone that can help here would also be great.

Q: How do I sign up?

A; Private message me and also post here on this thread. I will use this thread as the list of people that want to participate and update this page as people join.

Q: Do I have to pay to get into the Magic Kingdom?

A: Yes, you would need to be inside the Magic Kingdom at WDW to be involved. If we move this to another location, then I will let everyone know. As this comes together I will know more about the location and time that works best for everyone. I think the same time as mousefest in 2008 might work well, since mousefest in not happening in 2009 this would be a fun event for people to be a part of. This will probably be on a weekend.

Q: What do I wear?

A: Everyone should wear their regular street clothes, so nothing special.

Q: Will there be a get together later on for everyone involved?

A: If people want to get together later in the day I can set up something informal for everyone to meet at.

Q: Why?

A: Everyday I turn on the TV and see people getting laid off, businesses failing, and prices going higher. Let’s do something fun.

Q: The video link looks very professional. I can’t do that?

A: Yes the video of the dance at the station was done by professional dancers. This is more for fun and will be a much simpler routine. If enough people would like to get together for a practice rehearsal we could meet at a hotel convention center in Orlando or even a parking lot for a rehearsal the day prior or morning of the planned event.

That looks awesome! How about around the circle and someone can film from the train station area? Count me in if I'm in town!

Please let us know the dates as soon as you can - if I am at the World at the time, I am in x2

Good luck!

:dancer:

I love these commercials :goodvibes I have seen others that all 'freeze' for a minute or 2. In my home town everyone met in the town centre and petended to be pirates in battle, we would have gone but found out about it the day after :sad2:

Good luck with this, if you can't get the music permissions maybe try another idea :thumbsup2

If this post fits better in another area on the Dis., please feel free to move it.

Plan - Once I get some dance choreographers to lend some help I'll have more to share and can then take this to Disney and start letting people know dates.

If anyone is a dance choreographer or know a location I can post to get some people interested in helping with this part, let me know.

Thank you for that....

I have been in such a blue funk for the past few weeks - this was a great pick-me-up...

Count me in - if I'm at the world - I'll be there :dance3: - just dancing the night away

I would so do that. Lets go!!!! That would be sooooo much fun. If I can I will be there.

I would definately be up for this!!!! I love those commercials or the commercials where the people just freeze are great too.

This is really weird because I learned how to do Thriller almost 2 years ago and I was thinking to myself in the shower how cool it would be to get a bunch of people to suddenly break into thriller on main street with a boombox playing the song.

Anyway count me in. I'm up for anything that makes people wonder what's going on

Disney wouldn't go for this. It's too subversive and "disruptive to guests" for their comfort, I'm sure.

They got bent out of shape years ago when someone wore the RADP logo on a button. They've gotten better about fan groups, but this seems like something they'd veto immediately.

my idea was to use a boombox and a form of Disney transportation, like the ferry boat. There is lots of room on the upper deck of the potter I believe, where people could spread out enough. Of course my idea was Thriller, but anything would work. Personally though, I think that routine is waaayyy too complex for people to learn. I mean I taught myself Thriller off of an instructional video, but that routine seems way harder

Yes, the routine would need to be simple so everyone that wanted to put a little effort in could learn it.

Disney is really doing viral marketing now and looking for ways to get the word out so this showing upon YouTube etc., might be something they are interested in. But if not this is a good place to start from and then make it simpler from there. So if needed maybe this ends up being done at Downtown Disney, or some other place on property with one person dancing to a boom box and then growing in number.

The difficult parts I foresee are with the routine and with getting permission from Disney.

I have sent out a few emails to dance studios in Orlando about the idea to get input.

The questions I hope to answer are:

Is there a routine that people will be willing to learn on their own that is at least one min or two mins. long?

Practice – would people attend a one or two hour practice the morning of the event if we all met at a resort parking lot or covered area?

Will Disney allow this in the park, and if not we would need to brainstorm some other ideas.

I think timing this with a Disney Event like Mousefest, even though it is not planned for 2009, or MagicMeets might be a good idea. That would allow this to be an event on the calendar, would insure a large group would be at Disney on those dates, and might allow a place and time to practice as well as some support from Disney.

Steve

I would be willing if you do it while I am there - but I am going in June - too soon?

If it is 2 minutes long, and you get in and do it - they are just going to have time to break it up as it is ending. I say go for it! :thumbsup2

Wow! Doesn't the world need more of this??? :-)

How would you get the boom box past security? The music in the video seems to be coming over the loudspeaker, so I'm sure the train administration was in on it.....

Hi,

Yes this was a full scale production with thousands of professional dancers that auditioned and then they picked 400. They did rehearsals, etc. since this was for a commercial. So I do not expect we would be pulling off something at this level. Right now I am just shopping the idea around to see what would be fun and possible.

a laptop computer with external speakers would do the trick unless you're talking about a very large number of people. Laptops are easy to take into the parks since a lot of people go in and shoot live webcam and all that.

Although I would highly recommend utilizing downtown Disney instead of the park. There is more room and it doesn't disrupt that "bubble" that MK has
