I wish single supplement wasn't so high. I went first time last October and it was better than I imagined. It was "only" 150% at the time, now it's 200% . I wanted to go one more time before it left Galveston.
Sigh. That single supplement is the only thing that has deterred me from doing a Disney cruise. I'm hoping to be able to poach a friends family vacation sometime, lol
Oh, I so agree! I wanted to do a solo cruise and wanted to do Disney, but the solo supplement is making that impossible. What I don't understand is why the full 200%. I mean, the cost of the cruise includes meals right? Yet, a solo doesn't eat food for two. I can understand charging for two people in a room, I suppose, but the food?
I have done six Disney solo cruises in three years and I agree with all the previous comments about the single suppliment. However if you work the DCL system legally you can find great deals on cruises.
I'm about to go on my 5th Disney cruise solo in December. I agree with all that single travelers should get a better deal. That said, I really enjoy cruises and don't mind going alone. I seem to get a good deal when I book my next cruise while on the current one.
They are a few ways to get the better deals. First is while you are currently sailing on Disney Cruise Line (DCL) it's always beneficial to book your next cruise. You get 10% off, you only have to leave a 10% deposit and you get shipboard credit depending on how many days your cruise is. No matter if you don't know what cruise location or date you want just pick the least expensive cruise and book it because you can always move it to another cruise as long as you haven't reached the final payment date but DCL has made some changes to continually changing your cruise so be mindful of the new rules. Another way to get the deals is book the first day the new cruise dates are announced to get the best price on the lower category staterooms. Finally I suggest you also use a travel agent (TA) because they can help find the best prices on cruises instead of spending a lot of time searching on the DCL website not to mention that TA's will also give you shipboard credit so there's more money in your pocket. I recently booked a cruise and with the discounts, shipboard credits and lower category stateroom my price was amazing and as much as I'd like to include it on this post I don't think I can mention prices on the boards so message me if you want to know what I paid.

Unfortunately, every cruise company charges single travelers 200 percent. Disney was the last holdout. I think there may be one cruise company that won't charge you 200 percent if you agree for them to pick a roommate for you but that's not something I'm willing to do! I agree with the OP that you can save money on the cost if you book your next cruise while you're on the ship. I've been on five Disney cruises traveling solo and I always book my next cruise while on board to get the discount. I also do escorted tours(think Perillo, ABD, etc) and they all charge a single supplement. With ABD it's about 140 percent, but you still pay more. I wouldn't give up traveling solo just because of the single supplement. It's just something we have to deal with.
Thanks for the tips. I unfortunately did not know about onboard booking when I did go in October. . But I did use a TA and didn't know about the credit but I was pleasantly surprised to find that note in my room!
I really love traveling solo-gone lots of places around world alone ( and I'm a single woman- yes it can be done safely too!). The absolute freedom is so exhilarating! Might sound selfish but it is just nice to do everything I want to do and I don't argue with myself lol! Meet lots of great people if I'm in the mood to chat or chill in silence if I desire.
Anyways went off on a tangent there . Thanks again for tips
