We are thinking about a Disney Cruise in Feb 06 using points (I know renting them and paying cash might be better but I don't want to go through the hassle) My question is to anyone who has booked a cruise with points. Is the availability limited or can you ususally get the catagory your looking for?(except the navigators verandah -- I think that's impossible to get even with cash :sad2: ) Any help would be great. Thanks. :mickeybar

We have done the cruise with points. Key is to be flexible with location on ship. Also book at the earliest possible which I believe is 11 months out. I have also looked on Expedia before calling to see which rooms were still showing vacant while I was on the phone with member services. Good luck and have a wonderful trip.

cat. 7 w/veranda is a stateroom for 3 or less people. i just found that out we are a family or 4. dont forget the $75 booking fee with booking on points.

it is actually easier to rent your points, if you dont want the hassle, i would rent only to members so the points can be transferred to their account.

once you have the money and transfer the points the transaction is all done, nothing to worry about.

renting your points with you making the ressies, you have to worry about it all the way up to the day of arrival, if the person backs out.

by renting you could pay for your cruise and still have money left over and no $75 booking fee.

but dont forget once you book on points and for some reason you need to cancel then your points will become reservation points these points can only be used for non dvc resorts, disney collection, world passport, concierge collection, adventure collection.

if you book on cash you have up to 75 days before you depart to get 100% of your money back, unless you purchase insurance.
enjoy cruising

I'm also interested in feedback on booking Disney cruises with points. Anyone else?

I have booked four cruises this year with our points. What I do is pay with points for one person and pay cash for the the other person. For me, it works out fine. Still have to pay the $75.00

I'm not burned out on Disney, but I go to WDW so much - I needed a change in my pace and the cruises seem to be doing the trick...................

The last time my family went cruising in points, we used points for one adult and an infant and paid cash for the other adult. And we did get a Navigator's verandeh! I am currently in the process of renting points that were expiring, and I have experienced some headaches. (Renter changed mind about time of reservation.)

To each is own on this issue.

Thanks for all of your input !!! :earsboy:
We decided to go for it and got a catagory 8 (we could have had a catagory 5, but didn't want to use that many points ). The difference between what it would cost cash and what I could have rented the points for was only $180. To me, the extra $180 was not worth the effort of renting the points. :earboy2:
Again, thanks for all you help !!! :mickeybar

I, persoanlly, like the ease of cruising on my points! We bought into DVC just so we could cruise more often.

We used points for a 3 night cruise last November. We only had enough points for an inside cabin, and it was great! We're using points for the Members Cruise. However, now, we don't have "extra" points for cruises, we want to go to VB and the WDW resorts even more than in the past, so for the next Disney cruise that we book, probably December '06 we'll be paying cash.
