But we are looking forward to a cruise. Why are you concerned? Do you or your travelling companions experience nausea riding in a car, flying, rides, etc.? If not you probably won't have any problem. If so, then from what I have seen on the cruise boards, there are many over the counter items you can do from dramamine, to Ginger products. Most don't like the dramamine because they say they feel drugged. They make a gum and hard candy containing ginger to help ward off this queasey feeling. If this is a definate concern (you know someone has trouble in the area) you may want to speak with a doctor, because they make a prescription patch that you apply to the body, usually behind the ear or wrist. If you do not know of anyone previously having a problem, don't stress yourself into it. I believe there are some that truly have motion sickness. Then there are some that get sick thinking about where they are. Sometimes I think some people talk themselves into it, by concentrating on it so hard. I like to go out deep sea fishing (way out of sight of land) and I have seen those that like the comfort of being able to see land, and they get sick once it is gone. But if you are having a good time and not constantly thinking about the security of land, you will do much better. Hope you have a magical trip.:thumbsup2

P.S. We have some friends who have cruised regularly and here is a piece of advice they offered. If worried about motion sickness, try to book a room more towards the bottom level and center (side to side) of the ship and also the rear of the boat has less motion than the front. So book an inside room low to the ships deck and more towards the rear of the ship for the least motion.

Nassau is beautiful & the day trip to the Atlantis is well worth it! There is so much to do there!!
In July when my family was at the Bahamas I was told most of the straw market burnt down and they have been trying to rebuild... I dont know what has happened since July, but I am sure they have something going on....

Go to the DCL forum at http://disboards.com/forumdisplay.php?f=9
There is a discussion about Nassau there. Might be on page 2 by now. I've also read about other options...many have said to stay on the boat if you are on the 3 day to enjoy what's on it since we do not have a sea day. There's also discussions about seasickness, other excursions, and what you can do on Castaway Cay. Lots of info...I still haven't decided. They'll make you feel better. It's my first cruise too and I still have questions but I'm going to go and just let the magic happen---oops, wrong boat---have a Wonder--ful cruise.

We went there and experienced some choppy water at the beginning and end but it really wasn't that bad. I agree- some people talk themselves into it if they think of it too much so don't think about it :worried: ! Some tips to help: sip light drinks like sprite and LOTS of water, don't get drunk, don't overeat, and get some light exercise! I wish we would have taken advantage of the morning walking groups they had...it would have saved me 10 lbs!!! Also, when we were on the island, we opted to NOT go with an organized group but instead went with a local taxi/tour guide (cheaper). He took us to all of the places you wouldn't see on the regular tour bus (so he said)- alot of the poorer neighborhoods but some cool sites, too! We also did the Atlantis which made some of my favorite pics! As you get off the ship, there will be a whole bunch of taxis waiting to take you so just pick one -us and another family that rode along did briefly wonder if we were going to be robbed and sold off but we came home in one piece! Have a fun trip!

We did our first cruise a few years ago and we did Disney, 7 days to St. Martin. I was leery, never being on a cruise, came prepared with dramamine wrist bands but never used them. Cruise was ideal. I never looked seaward while ship was moving, guess that helped me, we dined with no problems and had a ball.

My only problem was in the shore excursions, really nothing to see or do, other than spend money on flea market type junk or food, which I wou;dn't eat any way. St. Thomas was alittle better, just at the port, more inland was like our hometown slums. Told my wife, the cruise was great but I would never get off the ship again to any port other than Castaway. If you stay on board, everything is free as in sailing, no real fun on shore, always costing something to either see, way to get there and back and sites not worth seeing. I'll just lounge around the ship, dine, munch take a dip because the ship isn't in port all that long. Hope you enjoy your trip and have better luck on the shore excursions.

The people over on the cruise forum here at the DIS
are great about answering questions.

Why not pop over there and ask too:)
