Disney Cruise Incentive....who else is planning their trip

My husband and I are so excited. We just bought 200 BLT points (our first contract!) We are thinking about a cruise fall 2009. I am still waiting to get my DVC paperwork. Just bought last week. The cruise incentive is for a family of 4. We actually have five. Does anyone know if you can pay the difference for the 5th person?

What cabin category can you book for the free cruise? The only non-suite cabin that holds 5 is a cat 4. Otherwise, you need two cabins. The cat 4 cabins are very expensive and may not be part of the incentive since they sleep 5 and the deal is for 4 people. You need to check your paperwork or call Member services.

Yeah, I guess it's a bad day to call MS with anything other than a BLT or THV booking. But if you get the answer, please post -- I'm interested, as well. Do you have to pay for a cabin upgrade, and then pay for the 5th person, too?

I just got off the phone. The Disney Cruise Website show a different sailing date then the one I got from member services for Thanksgiving week 2009. The website has not been updated and the dates that member services gave me for the November 2009 date is correct. (Called to confirm) The four day cruise leaves Wednesday the 25th and returns the 29th. We could not update to accommodate 5. Only 4 were allowed with the promotion. We booked a category 9 ocean view deluxe family room. Holy cow! We are so excited. Holiday cruise!

Covered, but not resolved. That thread reports a variety of answers to this OPs questions, all totally different from the one this OP got.

So, mmcculoch, what will you do with your 5th person?

Not sure. The thread was unresolved. So I do have an email into the member service guide I bought from for him to look into it. I will let you know. I am hoping we can add the 5th but will be ok if we can't. I have a much older stepson (compared to my 4/6) that I would love to take. If I can't, I will take him a few months later to Disney and stay at BLT with a MK view.

We are a family of 3.

We should buy a contract and you could sublet 1/4 of our cabin.

Update: bitter sweet but I am annoyed. On Sunday the member service booked my room, gave me a confirmation number and everything. Today I called to find out if a 5th person could be added. Good new...yes. However, apparently member services is not on the same page....we are not allowed to book until March 2. It was an error on their part and they apologized and canceled my ressie! I just hope I will be able to get the cruise/dates I want when it opens up.

Great! Did your guide/ms tell you what the add on cost for the 5th person was or the upgrade from cat8/9 to cat4?

No idea what the cost would be. I was on hold for 45 minutes while they sorted it out. I was shocked that they canceled my ressie. That left me speechless and never thought to ask her. Let me know if anyone esle finds out. Also, she said that we will get a certificate in the mail and will be booking directly through Disney cruise line. That is when we can make the addition and pay the difference.

What I was told by my guide is that you get cat. 9 for a family of 4. If you need to add a 5th person it would cause you to pay seperately for the 5th member and you would also have to upgrade your room to a category 4 family stateroom at $80 per person (4). The extra cost for the 5th person would be full fare cost. I don't remember the exact cost of the 5th person for our cruise, but the total including the $80 per person upgrade fee was around $1000. We decided not to take this incentive. Free, to me, doesn't consist of spending an extra $1000 on something we weren't planning for. I think it would be a great deal for a family of 4. For a family of 5, not so much. Maybe next time.

I looked into this last week when I went through the DVC presentation. The guy went back to ask and found out that the 5th person is not included. His suggestion was to leave the baby home - no way!! Or, bring along grandparents and get a second room. This is not free for me.

We didn't purchase. Am looking at the secondary market now...

I just added on at BLT and could not take advantage of the cruise option either (I am a teacher and could not make any of the sail dates). However, I asked for the matching developer points instead and were given those. If those are of interest to you, I am sure you could get those instead of the cruise.
