Disney Cruise app and Castaway Cay

Just wondering if the app works while on Castaway Cay or only on the ship? The reason I ask is we have a large party and some of us are going to do the Castaway 5K. That means we will need to find the rest of our party when we are done and would like to minimize the search time. I realize we can have a place we plan to meet, but the other part of our party isn't into crowds so if that spot was crowded, they would move and then we are searching and losing valuable beach time.

Wifi is available on Castaway. In fact it has improved considerably. You can view periscope shows from castaway even!

In my experience the texting app does not work on Castaway Cay.
There are "Wave phones"in your cabin that you can use on the CC. The Wave Phone is an the old style cell phones that don't have a full keyboard. You can text or talk. There are 2 phones per cabin and there is not a charge to use them.

I agree. We were on castaway cay last month and the texting did not work while there.

We were on CC last week and could not text once we left the boat and we had a party of 24 -- we were disappointed- phone didn't even show there was available wifi. The app does not seem to work once you are off the ship in CC. All adults tried in our party and none were able to communicate. However the app texting was wonderful for the other times on the cruise-- easily able to tell one another where we were and who could pick up the kids.

Exactly this. We didn't know it and couldn't find our friends all day. We ran into each other around 3:00 as we were both heading back to ship. Had I known ahead of time we would have just coordinated a meeting place.
