Hi - If we plan on going to Disney every 2 or 3 years going forward, is getting one of the Disney credit cards that your accumulate points worth it?
If, so is one better than the other and do you just accumulate points over time and can apply that to the cost of your package when you book it?
Any input on how it works or it is even worth it is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Dljohn

There are better, more flexible travel rewards cards out there. If I was only going to have one credit card to put all my spending on, the Disney Visa (either one) would not even crack my top 10 choices.

I use the visa premium and after about 2 years of use we have 900$ saved up for food on our upcoming trip. we just swapped to our jetblue card to see how the points go with that one.

There are better rewards cards, but it all depends what you want. We like the Disney Visa because we can save for vacation without even trying -- I can't "borrow" from the vacation funds to pay for an unexpected car repair or something. Also you want to be sure to pay off the balance every month or the rewards are not worth the interest.

When you are ready to vacation, you transfer the rewards points to a Rewards Redemption Card which works very much like a Disney gift card. You can then use those dollars to pay for the package, or room-only, or tickets, or dining on-site or souvenirs, etc.

The Premier card with an annual fee also allows you to use the rewards for airline travel, and that is done as a statement credit. Everything else goes through a Rewards Redemption Card.

I have been using my Disney Premium Visa since 2016. I use it because I always book vacation packages directly from Disney. So I am able to pay off the package within 6 months with no interest. The reward points help too.

I have the Disney Premium Visa and I find it very useful for us. Double points on gas, groceries, Disney purchases and dining out are very quick ways to add up points and they normally have 1-2 promotions a year with bonus points. The 6 months no interest for vacation packages is also great for us!

You would probably be better off getting a 2% on everything card if you only want to carry one card. If you don't mind using multiple cards to get more savings you could use the Costco or Sam's Club card for gas and restaurants if you're a member of either, Chase Freedom Flex for the 5% quarterly categories, and a 2% card for everything else.

As others mentioned, there are better overall rewards cards, but I have 0 regrets about holding a Disney Visa. When the kids were younger and we visited frequently, it was a great way to rack up $ for our vacations with almost no effort. Also, there are park perks such as dining discounts, exclusive Disney Visa character meets (during non-covid times), etc. When I first got the card, there were additional perks like free stroller rentals (that was awesome!). I've moved away from using my Disney card now for everyday purchases now that the kids are older and we don't go often, but I'm still keeping the card for park discounts and perks. My new "daily driver" credit cards are Costco Visa for cash back and Chase Sapphire Preferred for travel points for airfare and hotels.

Used the Disney Visa with the annual fee for about 4yrs as primary card. At the beginning of this summer, downgraded to the non annual fee version, and basically no longer use it. Switched to the Citi double cash card, 2% on everything. Now accumulating twice the cash back monthly since we have many other purchases that are not Disney, Groceries, Dining, Gas. Still will save up the Citi cash back rewards towards Disney trips, tickets, passes etc, but have 100% control over the cash back, and its not locked into Disney only spending.
