Does anyone know the reasoning behind having Disneyland Paris in the Disney collection and not Disneyland Tokyo? From what I have seen on the Disney homepage and elsewhere, Disney Tokyo seems like the stepchild that doesn't get much attention from anyone.

Is it an ownership issue? Doesn't a company other than Disney actually run the park in Tokyo?

I don't know...but, that is a very good question. Also, it makes me wonder if Hong Kong would be included?

Maybe it's because EVERYTHING is so expensive in Japan that the "trade" would've been for a ridiculous amount of points, or maybe the "powers that be" at Disneyland Tokyo didn't want it. I know DL has a LOT of say in how many points they want "in exchange", so mabye DVC and DL Tokyo have just never come to an agreement. Or, maybe DVC just didn't think it would be popular enough to bother.

Who knows?? But, you might want to ask your guide that question...maybe they will know something.

Just as an example of its "stepchild" status, there is no Tokyo board on this website. There is a board for Paris, though. I'm confused. Has anyone been? Is it just bad? Are there no resorts there to trade into?

I'm not sure of the relationship but I think Disney Tokyo is a joint venture type of set-up. I'm not sure whether there are Disney resorts there or not. It used to be that you had to make a reservation just to enter the park since it was so popular.

A quick search found the official site. There are resorts and two parks.

Tokyo Disneyland

It's a partial ownership with Disney and Oriental Land Company

Our guide told us that it's an ownership issue as suggested above. Disney was paid to design the Japanese parks and lend their name, but they're owned and operated by a different company that has turned down overtures for this kind of deal.

I haven't been, but I've read posts that claimed Tokyo's MK to be the most beautifully themed on the planet.

From photos and trip reports, I'd say Disney Sea is the best looking park in the world, bar none. Unfortunately some of the rides are a bit disappointing.

Flying to Japan would seem to be the biggest pain, and I'm on the west coast.
