Do you think the Disney Visa card will increase/decrease or have no impact on vacation planning?
Other than a potential increase in revenue for Disney, do you think the card was a wise choice to replace the Disney Club?

I do not think it was the best thing to replace the Disney Club.

The Disney Club was available to anyone who could pay cash. The Visa card is not available to everyone. Those with no credit or poor credit are left out. As are those who simply have a card with better interest rates or deals and don't want/need another.

I have no intention of getting the Disney card. I already have a credit card that I'm very happy with. If this will be the ONLY way to receive hotel discounts then I'll simply stay off-site (when we're not using our DVC points). Or just travel to WDW once a year.

The only reason we're able to afford to go more is that we can get hotel discounts with our AP. If that disappears...so do we...and so does our reason to purchase an AP.

So, in our case they'll be losing money.

Overall I am not sure that it will have much of an effect either way on sales but I don't think it was smart to replace the Disney Club with the VISA. I think the best option would be to provide both but not allow both discounts to be used at the same time.

I will not be getting the VISA because I do not want another credit card. In my case they have lost potential revenue.

I agree and have gotten far greater discounts from AP and code mailings than from Disney Club for the last year or so.
I got the Disney card to use with business travel which usually is a few grand a month. At 1% award for each $ spent it will be a while to get any real value. There is also a $75k limit per year on which bonus $ can be applied. Since I will not use the card for normal purchases and will pay it off monthly no impact to me with some minor benefit. I may even decide that my Marriott Visa does more and dump the Disney card.
I hope they do not impact AP benefits nor eliminate "code" specials!

As a holder of a Disney Card in the UK I'm a bit annoyed that Disney has decided to replace it with the Disney Visa - especially as the Disney Visa will not be available outside the USA :(

Apart from the obvious savings of having a Disney Club Card, it was also nice to feel 'part' of the Disney family through being a member and receiving the magazines etc.

It seems Disney does not care too much for the many UK and non-US Disney Club members it's deserting :(

As for Disney losing any revenue from me - they have lost the annual fee (higher for us non-US residents), and perhaps I may think twice about going to the local Disney Store (then again, perhaps not ;) ).

I think Disney did it because the visa card will bring in more profits. I think its that simple. Much of what Disney does is all about profits. No, make that almost almost almost ALL disney does is about profits.

I think currycook is right.

The Visa card instead of the Disney Club is a lousy deal for the Consumer but most likely wonderful for the Disney Corporation.

I'm sure they will make much more charging interest on the $6 - $10k in debt that a large majority of the holders will eventually accumulate than they made with the $29.95 annual fee.

I doubt that the cards will have any impact on vacation planning.

Other then the discount on AP's I got very little benefit out of the Disney Club. I did not purchase anything that I would not have already purchased w/ or w/o a discount. So for me the decision to do away with the DC will not impact my purchase history.

I will get more use of the Visa, since I have been using it for my day to day purchases and plan to pay off the balance each month. So even though the 1% seems small, it is still 1% that I wasn't getting before.
