I just received a letter telling us that they will discontinue the Disney Club on December 31, 2003.

I called and asked if there would be a replacement program and was told no.

So the small 10% discount we used to get will be gone.

Earlier this year, Disney announced a deal with VISA for a credit card. The press release made mention of earning points for discounts on vacations, videos, & merchandise. But no hard details were released. The new VISA is supposed to start 1/1/03 so I imagine in the next couple of months we'll be hearing more about it in the next couple months. As an aside to the deal with VISA, Amex will no longer be the "official card of WDW" (I imagine those discounts will be going away 12/31/02 too), and they will no longer sponsor the American Adventure at Epcot.

If you want a Disney Club card, the last date they will be issued is 12/31/02. If your card expires in 2003, you will receive benefits until that expiration date. All cards expire 12/31/03.

I just got off of the phone with them. The stated reason for the removal of the DC is that members were wanting too many benefits for the $29.95 Annual cost. They are getting rid of the club and even the lifetime members are loosing their benefits.
They will take memberships up through the first week in December, so if you renew 12/5/02 (ish) you can get service through the next year. They do it a year in advance of when you renew. They are not planning any replacement program.

OTR, I personally think it is another cost saving measure. I guess I need to write a letter... Here is the address:earseek:

Disney Club
Attn: Kitty Comer

If you are an annual passholder, the benefits are basically the same, except for the discount at TDS (and with the current merchandise, that hasn't been of much use). The Disney Club benefits have been dwindling for years...clearly it has been their plan to eliminate this discount club for a while.

I'm with you Jeff. Another happy DVCer here with her 10% plus a lot more!

People wanting MORE!? :p How about just what we use to have?
Once again, I think they are just hurting themselves.
Couldn't be because so many people said they were cancelling or not renewing their membership, could it?

I just had to put my oldest dog down. I am just not in a good mood. :p

Well shoot, I was going to use my DC discount on my room for next year and we are going on Dec 13-20, now I wonder if I should even bother, oh well guess I'll be saving that $30 a year now. Hopefully the AP rates will be just as good next year as they were this year!

I use my Disney Club card for the 10% at DS and at DLR on any pin purchase over $50. I spent over $550 on pins last month and with the discount it came to $506. And the subscription to Disney Magazine are the 2 things I used the card for. How sad :(

Karin, I was wondering about the magazine, too. I wonder what will happen.

The catalog doesn't take the DVC or AP discount. :(

One more nail.
