OK- So I was minding my own business at work yesterday and one of my co-workers (a fellow Disney lover) comes up to me and says very matter-of-factly..."did you hear that Disney is going to build a park in S.C.?" I shrugged it off and a bunch of nothing of course. Seems like a ridiculous thought, Disney building anything in SC (Santee, SC to be exact where I-95 and I-26 cross). So he goes and finds his "source", another co-worker. She says her husband works for a company that rents out big machinery for clearing land etc. The report is that Disney has rented millions of $$ of machinery to clear land, she says for a park geared to younger kids.

 HUH??? Sounds like Magic Kingdom and Disneyland to me. Do they really need another park that is only 6 hours away from the big Kahuna....I doubt it. Not that I am saying I don't like the idea. I just don't really buy it. No breath holding for me!

I know there was just a thread not too long ago debunking the idea of Disney buying property in LA. Seems strange that another story would crop up so soon in a completely different area. I did a search online (not a expansive one) and didn't come up with much.

I think we will continue our annual passes at WDW and continue to plan trips to Orlando as I doubt this rumor will pan out

How many other places has Disney been rumored to be building in?

I heard a rumor once that they were going to build in Missouri, but it was just a rumor.

Could very well be a new DVC...they are and have been planning on building more of them. At this moment they are adding DVC in Hawaii and DL and WDW. they have big plans on that.

Is is anywhere the shore? or what is it near?

Maybe they want another park in place so that when California and Florida fall into the oceans they will still have a $ maker....
;)

It is literally at the intersection of I-95 and I-26 which is about 40 miles inland from Charleston. There is nothing at this place, maybe an outlet mall. That's all. If it's DVC we sure won't be staying there!

I'm pretty sure Disney has some administrative offices in SC. Maybe it's a new office campus.

Maybe a Disney store?? or maybe a call center

I'm in Mo and maybe a year or so ago there was HUGE rumor that they were going to build a another park, :confused3

I seriously doubt that Disney would build a theme park so close to WDW. I would bet the farm that this is another false tale of a Disney theme park being built. If you ever go to the "Disney news and rumors" section that's on this board, you will see quite a few threads on all the places where Disney is supposedly building a theme park. I have seen it mentioned being built in Louisiana and Texas, but the South Carolina location is new to me. Central Texas would make the most sense because it wouldn't be too close to either WDW or Disneyland.

Bottom line is that Disney has two under performing parks in France and Hong Kong and they both have been a drain on company resources. Lets not forget about DHS and AK in Orlando, that both need some major expansion money and new attractions to update them. Also remember that DCA is getting a huge 1 Billion dollar make over to fix Eisner's mistake of building DCA on the cheap.

I doubt Disney is going to spend Billions upon Billions to make another MK park. In 1971 the WDW project cost over 400 million to originally make and that was with only one park, two hotels, and one campground. I could only imagine what it would cost in today's dollars to duplicate just that. They need to spend their money just to fix and update what they already have.

Just my two cents on it.;)

There's always some rumor or another that Disney is building somewhere. About 10-15 years ago they actually were contemplating building a new history themed park in VA called Disney's America. It never got off the drawing board though. Even though the scope is kind of limited it sounds interesting to me.

Last October I was in the hot tub at Boardwalk a women and I were talking. She asked if I had heard that Disney bought the Atlantis? I said no I'm surprised to hear that. Where did you hear that? She says her friends cousin works for the company (I forget what name she said) that owned the Atlantis. I said I don't think that's the company that owned the Atlantis. She insisted it was and lots of people knew about it and she couldn't wait to go now that Disney owns it. She was so sure I didn't tell her she didn't even have the name of the company right!
