I was going to change our cabin from deck 8 to deck 6, exact same type of cabin both midship, just down 2 decks. When I looked at the app to do the change it was going to charge me nearly $300 for the change. I called because I thought if you changed cabins that were the same, there was no extra cost. She said even though the cabins were the same, one of the decks was labeled as 5B and the other was 5C(I don't remember which was which). Anyway, she got it worked out and switched me to the cabin I wanted and didn't charge me extra for it. So if anyone is looking to switch cabins, if the app is going to charge a lot, give DCL a call instead. I only had to wait about 10 mins before I was connected to a CM.

Hmmm…usually the cabin is cheaper on a lower deck, so I’m surprised it was going to be more to switch to a lower deck. Maybe the website was showing the current cost for the cabin on Deck 6, when you should be charged what it would have cost on the day you booked your cruise? I just upgraded my cabin and the cost when I called was $1500 less than what the website showed, because it was showing me current prices. Anyways congrats on the 10 minute hold time, when I called Costco last week it was like 100 minutes! (Not even counting the Costco hold time, sigh)

Previously, the upgrade "rule" was that you would pay the fare for the new room as of the date you initially booked. So if you booked a 5C and wanted to move to a 5B, there likely would still be an upgrade charge, albeit usually a small one.

However, that rule JUST changed. Any upgrades are priced at the current fare prices now, not as of the date you initially booked.

Yep. I even said to the CM that usually lower decks are cheaper. She asked me why I wanted to switch to a lower deck. I told her I get seasick and when I booked the cruise no cabins on deck 6 were available, but some are now. Not sure if that also helped. But like you said the app could be going by current prices. I called last week and the wait time was over an hour so I was shocked the time today was so quick.

Thanks. I'm surprised they didn't make me pay the current price. This is the first time in 8 cruises that we've switched cabins.

The rule literally just changed maybe 2 days ago - so it's possible she was able to use some pixie-dust for you.

That's a bummer of a rule change. Sometimes you book what is available with the hope of changing if what you really wanted opens up. It's sad how most businesses slowly make things worse for customers after gaining loyalty through treating customers great. These little things add up over time. It seems like the inevitable path for successful businesses.

I had no idea it had already changed! Wow, I’m really glad I upgraded last week or I wouldn’t have done it since the price was at the limit of what we were willing to pay. They certainly didn’t publicize this!
