Welcome to the April 2025 exercise thread, in which we'll be entertained by Disney trivia that is focused on numbers.

If you’re returning, we’re excited to have you back! If you’re new, welcome to the team! Here’s how it works:

Each person chooses a time goal and posts minutes towards that goal as they exercise. You can post daily or just catch up when you can. You decide what movement counts towards your goal - which can be a nice round total for the month, a specific number that means something to you, or a calculation based on a target number of minutes per day. Since April has 30 days, here are some common conversions:

15 minutes/day = 450
20 minutes/day = 600
30 minutes/day = 900
45 minutes/day = 1350
1 hour/day = 1800

One of the special motivations of our Disney challenge is color changing! Page one will be updated with individual and team color changes as we make more and more progress:

10% - Blue
25% - Orange
50% - Purple
75% - Pink
90% - Red
100% - Green

We’re officially starting this challenge on April 1st, but if you don’t find the thread until later in the month, you’re still welcome to join! There's no better time than the present to start toward your goals!! Just post your goal and I’ll add you to the list. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions and to check out old threads to see what’s been going on.

Welcome, everyone!

In honor of the first day of the month, let's look at Disney's first theme park--Disneyland!

Disneyland opened on July 17, 1955, meaning it marks its 70th birthday in just a few months. For the opening, Disney expected about 15,000 people but got 28,000 (lots of bootleg tickets floating around!). Reportedly 90 million viewers watched the unprecedented 90-minute live broadcast on ABC, which used 24 cameras.

Just weeks later, on September 8, 1955, Disneyland welcomed its one millionth visitor.

Disneyland was the first Disney park, but each year the most visited Disney park is the Magic Kingdom. Before the pandemic, in 2018 and again in 2019, the Magic Kingdom welcomed nearly 21 million guests. Obviously the numbers dipped in 2020, but they are starting to rebound back to the 2019 high. In 2023 (the most recent figures available), MK hosted 17.7 million guests. Disneyland Park was second with 17.25 million, and Tokyo Disneyland was the most visited international Disney park with 15.1 million.

Hi everyone! It's been a while! So glad to see familiar names! After an absolutely crazy year and half, I realized I have to get back to moving - for myself and my sanity. So, I'll join in for 400 minutes.
Sophie1996, what an interesting theme! With the crowds at the parks the last time I went (Nov. '24), it's hard to believe the numbers were even higher in 2019! Sure seems worse now.

Happy Friday! BonnieF jumps right in at Blue, and PollyannaMom is Blue as well! The TEAM is at 7.8% thus far.

Epcot is in the middle of the Flower & Garden Festival, which runs from March 5 to June 2. This year's festival--the 30th anniversary--features more than 70 topiaries (you can find a checklist here) and 20 gardens (listed here).

I couldn't easily find numbers for this year's festival, but earlier festivals reported 30 million blooms around Epcot, nearly 1,000 butterflies in the Butterfly House, 200 floating mini-gardens, and festival plants that included 60 species of trees, 47 types of palms, and 48 varieties of bedding plants.

F&G is one of my favorite times to visit Epcot--likely because here at home it's often still snowing in March and April (like it is right now!). The gardens are just so beautiful!

What a fun idea! I'm aiming for 450.
:welcome: Love your avatar!

:welcome: back! Glad to see you again! Yes, I also think the parks feel ever more crowded.

:wave2:So happy to see you here again!!!!

Congratulations to Raya for turning Blue, and to Twilight Sparkle, who also technically is Blue but is *this* close to turning Orange! The TEAM also is Blue!

A bit of news this week--WDW plans to have both Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon open this summer. Since the pandemic, the resort has alternated opening the water parks, so it's nice that they will be able to spread crowds a bit.

Some numbers for Blizzard Beach:

Mount Gushmore stands 90 feet tall.

The flagship attraction is Summit Plummet, 120 feet tall. Riders can reach speeds of 60 miles per hour. It's the second tallest and fastest free-fall slide in the world (the highest and fastest is Insano in Brazil).

All water areas are heated to about 80 degrees F--except the melting snow in the ice cave of Cross Country Creek.

And some numbers for Typhoon Lagoon:

The Surf Pool pushes out 6-foot waves every 90 seconds. It holds nearly 3 million gallons of water!

Castaway Creek is 2000 feet long.

The Crush 'n' Gusher coaster pumps 1,350 gallons per minute.
