Hi I need your help. A friend of mine came to me with a question, She has a silver charm bracelet that belonged to her father. It was goven to him by Walt Disney back in the 1930's, at the time he was an illustrator for Disney in New your City. It has several Disney character charms. She would like to know more about it, can anyone help?

I can't help, but I would love to see a picture of it...any chance you could scan it?

Leslie

There were several types of charm Bracelets available during this period... Is it probable that this gift was given during the later half of the 30's? I assume it is not on a card of any sort? If you're not able to post a picture, could you describe the charms in some additional detail:

What characters are they?
Are they flat or 3-D? Painted? If flat, are they pictured on a round disc?
How many charms are on the bracelet?

Can you narrow the time frame that the piece was given?

Is it possible that this piece is white gold?

Dave

In answer to what it looks like, it could be white gold because it does't tarnish. The charms are figurine style and they are of Mickey, Minnie, Donald and his nephews, pluto, the parrot with the sombrero and maybe one more. They are about a half inch in size. Also they could have been given out in the mid forty's. Sorry I don't have the scanner to send a picture.

I'm assuming then that the figures are not painted...

The Jose Carioca charm dates the piece between 1942 thru say, 1946. There was a Jose charm made, and sold seperately.

I keep thinking about this being a gift from Walt... If you would take the piece to a jeweler, he could very quickly tell whether the charms are gold or not. If they are gold, this was probably produced by Cartier of New York during the last year (1942) they had a Disney license during this period. This could have been a sample of a proposed product, or the first of a very short run. I am not sure what the rules were for using precious metals during the war.

I can't find anything like it in my reference books, so I would think, without seeing it, that it is somewhat rare.

THanks for your help. Just in case I'm heading for Disney World in March is there anywhere there I could ask?

I don't know anyone down there who would be able to tell you anything about the piece.

First, take it to the local jeweler and see if the charms are gold. Then take a picture of it. Even a scan from a Staples copy machine would help. When you have done that, then you can send the pic to Dave Smith at the Disney Archives. If he can't help, then you have a problem...

but something really RARE!!!
