So I was in the Barnes and Noble tonight and I just HAD to wander past the travel books. I see Fodor's Disney World for Couples (5th edition) and think it might be helpful for our trip next year. As I'm glancing through it I stop on the page of must rides in MK. The second ride on the list...Alien ExTERRORstrial!! I laughed so loud I turned heads.

I used to buy those guidebooks but haven't in the past 5 years or so. The information on the internet is so much more current.

Lol i know some of those books are sort of way behind. I sometimes get Burnbaums book at least its got some current info but not much. Guess these
books are prepared when the authors last visited Mk.

Okay, in fairness, I looked up this edition on bn.com - it was published in 2003 :flower:

The internet has trumped print books in the travel arena for a while now. It just isn't possible for a book to keep up with the changes. I still buy and use them, but differently than I did before. No longer are lists of names of places and phone numbers and such enough - because that is all at our fingertips.

You'll find that most guidebooks are outdated before they even hit the shelves. It's just the name of the game. It's always been that way - but it's much easier to see now that we have the instant-gratification of the Internet.

I've never been a fan of Fodor's, but even other travel books I counted on are way behind compared to the net......to be fair though, how could they not be? -- I bet it's so fustrating when you are writing a travel guide and a bunch of stuff changes before the darn thing even hits the shelves!

I still buy and use the Passporter though. I think because they focus mainly on Disney that they are really up with what is going on and what will be going on in the near future. :earsboy:

Remember when there was no internet and that's the only way you could get info on wdw? I remember as a kid waiting for the new Birnbaum's books to come out and sometimes on the Disney Channel they would have little clips about new things at WDW. Now, with the internet I usually don't buy guidebooks.
