(the usual disclaimer: I checked three pages and even did a search)

My uncle sent this to me this morning:

Disney World Restaurant Bans Children

ORLANDO, Fla. (Jan. 5) - The home of Mickey Mouse, Tigger and Tinkerbell has banned kids from its fanciest restaurant.

Beginning this week, children under 10 are no longer welcome at Victoria & Albert's in the Grand Floridian Resort & Spa. Victoria & Albert's is Walt Disney World's only restaurant with an AAA five-diamond rating.

"We want to be the restaurant that's available for that adult experience," said general manager Israel Perez.

Only about three families a month ever brought young children to Victoria & Albert's, said Rosemary Rose, Disney's vice president for food, beverage and merchandise operations.

Men are required to wear jackets, and women must wear dresses or pantsuits. The hushed atmosphere features live harp music, and the menu, which changes daily, offers seven-course dinners that can last as long as three hours. Prices start at $125 a person.

Rose noted that there are plenty of dining options for families at Disney, which World has 97 other full-service restaurants.

Looks like not much will be changed by this. Hardly anyone brings the kids anyways...

There was a thread over on the restaurant board about this...

V&A's I do not have a problem with....but there were a whole bunch of people clamoring for Disney to do this at other signature dining restaurants to which I say...if you don't like kids when you go out to eat, go to Sandals....

Wow! What the heck did those few kids do to get all kids banned! :rotfl2:

Or more correctly, what didn't the parents do
:rotfl:

i think its a good idea. Moms, Dads, Aunts, Uncles ect can enjoy and nice quiet dinner away from kids.

i also think its very boring for young kids so they start to act restless.

Sigh...FINE. Just wish it would've been a more casual restaurant, but beggars can't be chosers. Perhaps we'll give V&A's a try now.

That is not quite true. Most of the people are saying ONE more signature dining place. Not everyone can afford V&A. One other signature would enable the ones that can't afford V&A a nice alternative adult dining experience. There are 97 full service resturants in Disney. 2 would not be the end of the world. It makes me crazy that wanting an adult restaurant equates not wanting kids around at all when you go out to eat. :confused3

I always thought that V&A's was a kid-free zone. :confused3
That's why we booked ours into the kid's club at GF for April.:cool2:

I can't imagine anyone bringing their kids here, anyway! Not only because of the cost, but not many kids would want to get all dressed up and sit in a restaurant for hours on end while mom and dad eat course after course after course :lmao:

I don't think Disney should do this at any other restaurants, though. Disney's a family-friendly place. If you want adults-only, Disney obviously isn't that place.

because the signature dining restaurants are just that....special and unique places, and the kind of dining experience I really enjoy..I certainly do not want to be told I cannot eat in one of those places with my children when I'm going to a family vacation spot.

My mom came with us last year (and will in 08) and we had several adults only dinners at signature dining places where there were always well behaved kids...My own kids are well behaved in restaurants and regular restaurant go-ers, and not everyone has babysitting options open to them on vacation.

Go ahead and make Sci-Fi Diner kids free, that I'm ok with....but some of the other restaurants names that have been tossed around? I think thats the whole point of Disney, you can enjoy some more adult oriented things with kids in tow....

No what they where asking for is for ONE signature resteraunt to be child free. Any way as a solo travellor you are not really welcome at sandals

this is my suggestion. If people want other restaurants kid free, take the ones people suggest and put them in a weekly rotational. Every Tuesday Jiko is kid free, every Wednesday Citrico, etc

Disney is great for adults as everyone here knows, but it's primarily a "family" place. When most people who aren't "Disney-obsessed" think of Disney World, they think of kids. I don't think it would make sense to make any restaurant child-free. Victoria and Allbert's I can understand since it's so expensive and such a long, uneventful experience (at least for kids!) But as for the other restaurants, a majority of poeple going to Disney have kids in tow, and if they're willing to fork over the cash for the signature restaurants why bar them from doing so just because they have kids? There are a million and a half really amazing restaurants out there in the rest of the world that are 5-star places and kid-free. Disney isn't the place for that.

I like the idea of making a few (just a few!) restaurants kid-free just for a day or two a week. I don't agree that everywhere needs to be kid-friendly at all times just because it's located on Disney property.

There are single people, couples without kids, retired people, locals and even parents that can use a night out together that might enjoy the chance to get away from kid pandemonium. I think that making V&A's a kid-free zone is a step in the right direction. However, like some people said not everyone can afford this restaurant so a few more would be sensible IMO.
