Hi everyone We will be going on the Christmas Cruise this year to the Bahama's & Castaway Cay. Has anyone gone during December? What is the weather & water temp like? Thanks
At Castaway Cay, water temp is a little chilly, but swimmable. It takes a little bit of time to get used to it. Furthermore, the waves may be choppy if you go further out from the shore (e.g. to try to find the sunken statues). However, the biggest things are the clouds and the wind. It will be hot, but may be cloudy, so the Stingray experience may get canceled (happened to us the first year). Furthermore we had our glass bottom boat and also the parasailing canceled due to the wind (happened to us the second year). But, that being said, it was still hot and humid, especially if you're going to do the Castaway 5K.
I have not been to Castaway Cay..(but will be in November!) However, I'm a former South Floridian and spent 6 NYE's at Atlantis. The water is chilly, but it's not too bad once you're in. I've never experienced "hot" weather at that time of year, but I think it's also relative to what climate you are coming from. .
We were there on Dec. 31st this year. It was a beautiful sunny day and the crew said it was the nicest day that they had seen in weeks (I guess it was very overcast/ rainy on several other stops). The water, for us, was pretty chilly..... but we're from Texas, so if it's not over 85, it's chilly. The kids swam quite a bit though.
We were on the Magic the first week of December, and we had warm weather and very little rain. They said the week before our cruise was not so lucky. The water temperature was just right in Cozumel and Castaway Cay, and I will not swim in cold water. But, I am from Colorado, so I don't know if that makes a difference in my perceptions.
We liked it enough to book the Wonder around the same time this year.

I think you are right there. I get the feeling from straight from an Australian summer to a Bahamian winter, it might well be a shock to the system, even when to some it is 'warm'. I am thinking maybe activities and excursions are an alternative for the Xmas one!
We were on the Dream over Christmas in 2011. We spent Christmas Eve on CC- it was great!! Weather was warm, water was cool but swim able- water was full of people. Sun was out and making everyone happy!! It rained for about 20 min while we were riding bikes. Enjoy your trip!
We were there Christmas Eve this year. Everyone was in the water. I don't mean just my group, but EVERYONE, it was a HOT day and the water was perfect! I know they were having the warmest winter on record so you can't expect that ever year.
We were there on the Wonder on Dec 31 2014. It was overcast for parts of the day but warm and when the sun came out in the afternoon it felt quite hot. The water temps felt fine to us, but that's coming from Canadians. But the crew said that it had been raining quite hard a few days earlier. I think it can be a bit of a game of chance at that time of year so it's best to have a back up plan!
We were there this past December. I thought it was hot while running the 5k, very little wind on that trail but the weather was great to me. A bit too hot overall for my 10 yo and the water temp was a bit chilly now that you mention it. It didn't deter me and my 7yo from dipping into the sea, but we always do.

We were on the Wonder NYE cruise this year to the Bahamas. The weather was very nice. I think highs in Nassau, CC, and Key West were in the low 80's. CC water was warm enough, although I prefer warmer water temps.
