Disney aquires Marvel comics

From what I've read this can't impact parks east of the Mississippi, for Spiderman, X-Men, Fantastic 4, and one other thing Universal has contractual rights to.

I don't really want to see these characters in a Disney park, anyways, but the merge should be very profitable for Disney in the long-run.

Movie profits are going to amazing... In the past decade of movies alone Marvel's made around 2-3 billion.

Until the contract ends.

In which one of two things can happen:

1) Disney/Marvel can make Universal pay an arm and a leg to keep the rights and sign a new contract.

2) Disney can acquire all the rights and not let Universal have the option to sign a new contract.

Very true, and I can definitely see Disney jumping and dancing at the opportunity of having both these options :rotfl:

I actually quite love this. For very twisted reasons, but I do. >=D

For those of you thinking that 'It's just not Disney', remember that Disney hired Stan Lee last year. And he's the one that created Spiderman, right? This will just put the two back together again, which is the way it should be! <3

Ok, and now for my horribly twisted reasons....Disney now owns Marvel comics. Several Marvel Characters are themed in Universal Studios, one of Disney's biggest rivals. What are they going to do when the contract runs out? Pay Disney to keep the characters there? Or- what I am kind of secretely hoping for- SELL/GET PARTLY OWNED by Disney so that they are able to keep their doors open and don't fall under because of a loss of a bunch of favorite rides. >=D

Yeah. That would be amazing. Mainly because...the Harry Potter theme park is going there and I want to be able to go without feeling like such a traitor. OH MY GOODNESS! HARRY POTTER COULD GO DISNEY! =DDD

That would be a very happy day in Kylie Land. :cloud9:

Universal is gonna be empty without all the big rides like Spiderman and Hulk (I think that's Marvel, anyway). But then maybe they'll bring back the Back To The Future ride ;D

or maybe they will close and sell their land to disney :D

I want Disney to buy Universal! But, I don't want them to keep the Universal name. If they did, I'd still feel like a traitor if I went there. Oh, and I will be wanting my annual pass to work there as well.

Then, Disney can buy Seaworld. Then, Disney can buy Orlando. Then, Disney can rule the world. :goodvibes:

then they can buy florida and slowly conquer the world......aaaaaaaaaa such wonderful thoughts

I'm really more worried about the movies lol.
A Disney Spiderman movie?
That sounds terrible.
I mean I really don't like Disney's recent live action stuff.
Or does that not change?

I don't think it changes. Other movie production companies own the film rights for movies based on Marvel characters.

At least, that's what I heard.

I wouldn't be worried about the movies as much as Universal Studios. They have many marvel character things there from Marvel. I wonder what they are going to do about all of that. This may be Disney's way of trying to eliminate Universal Studios.

@ an earlier comment: disney would never take HP. why? why do you think there is no mentiong of the black cauldron? its considered too "black magic".

and i find it stupid that disney has enough money to blow on buying marvel characters, but they whine and say they dont have enough money to hire new cast members for FT/PT. and that their celebration year was a total flop. uhm. wut? :/

im not sure how i feel about this. i highly doubt youll be seeing any marvel characters at disney. im sorry, even in DHS it'd look stupid to have spider man walking down the streets of america. hopefully, it'll be like they did with studio ghibli. although i think i would die of happy to see miyazaki characters floating around the parks (of course then id go and scrutinize their outfits).

They will turn a profit on this, that's why "have money to blow" on this as opposed to hiring more CM. That's a cutback to spend more on things like this to make money to be able to hire them back eventually.

This is all about distribution. Don't forget that Disney owns things such as ESPN, ABC. So if you look at it like that Sportscenter, Lost and Grey's Anatomy are all Disney shows. They own Miramax, but would you say Jay and Silent Bob are Disney characters? Doubt it.

But because these are MARKETABLE characters for the tween/teen boy range (and well beyond that, obviously.) They also own Power Rangers and the Muppets. But as it's been stated they can't make rides for them due to the rights issues. It will probably be a lot of toy sales and video games for now at the kiosks around WDW and DL.

Fans of comics shouldn't be too worried. Disney SAY they're letting Marvel retain creative control and are going to be mainly there for distribution. As a fan of comics, I look at as a good thing. With the Disney name brand attached to it, it will generate a lot more interest in comics which isn't the hottest thing on the market right now. Once comics become more popular, more and more will be made. Also I'm hoping the Muppet comics that came out last year are continued this year with the power of Marvel behind it and hopefully a new Scrooge McDuck series.

Worse case scenario is that they botch this like they did with Doug when they bought it from Nickelodeon. Yikes.

Sorry. I've been speaking with people about this all day.

That's very true. ;>__>

But also, Disney now has things out like Hocus Pocus, Halloweentown and Wizards of Waverly Place. All 3 of which deal with Witchcraft.

thats true.
but think about how theyve dumb-down "witchcraft" for things like wizards of waverly place and halloween town. HP (as silly as this is going to sound) is darker than that.

and yes, "future profiting" from buying marvel is blatantly obvious. :/

I think it will be a bad thing if Disney puts Universal Studios Orlando out of business. Then they'll have no competition, and they can do whatever they want and raise their prices even more.
