Still Going!

I can't believe y'all don't remember The Battle of New Orleans

Can you hum a few bars for us Alan? (better yet, have Mrs. AA sing some lines!)

LOL! Johnny Horton is much more my range than Mrs. AA's!

Here are some lyrics from the end of the song:

We fired our cannon til the barrel melted down.
So we grabbed an alligator and we fought another round.
We filled his head with cannon balls and powdered his behind
and when we touched the powder off, the gator lost his mind.

We fired our guns and the British kept a'comin.
There wasn't nigh as many as there was a while ago.
We fired once more and they began to runnin'
on down the Mississippi to the Gulf of Mexico.

Yeah, they ran through the briars and they ran through the brambles
and they ran through the bushes where a rabbit couldn't go.
they ran so fast that the hounds couldn't catch 'em
on down the Mississippi to the Gulf of Mexico.

Familiar yet?

Hmmmm..........nope, not yet. Maybe if I heard the actual song. Us Yankees don't have that song sung to us at bedtime!:teeth:

Wrong war. The reason I chose it for that post was that it is a song about a battle in the War of 1812 so there is no reference to the War for Southern Independance. (Or the War of Northern Agression)

It starts out:

In 1814 we took a little trip
Along with Colonel Jackson down the mighty Mississip

I tried to find a midi for you, but none of them sound the way the popular song version did.

Starting to sound familiar now Alan. Does it have the same beat as The Beverly Hillbillies song?

Just referring to myself as a Yankee in general, not dealing w/ a certain war.

All our music sounds the same to y'all doesn't it? :p

Oh, since you had said it as not a "Yankee" lullabye, I figured you thought it was a Civil War Song.

Yankees aren't that bad; heck, I'll take a Yankee dime anytime I can get it.

:wave2:

Hey there everyone, thanks for your kind thoughts and prayers! I'm not hundred percent sure on why she is there but I think she is over the worst now, was quite a shock to find out about!

SB hope your eye calms down soon! Dr Gaspode goes along with the prescription of a trip to WDW... My fee? Take me along with you of course!!

Also SB I'm playing all kinds of stuff but mostly, of course, I like to learn Catatonia songs :) I also have learnt a little Van Morrison and my favourite song of all time: California Dreamin' by the Mamas and Papas tho' I can't play any of them fully and I certainly can't play any Johnny Horton - Sorry Alan!

Take care all,
Gaspode

Gaspode - now California Dreamin' is a song I know!!! I love that song. Good news about your friend.

Can't stay on much longer - will be leaving work soon. Will check in tonight to see if we need our new home started.

Busy day at work... and I forgot to say that I will keep your friend in my prayer, Melissa! Glad to hear that the worst seems to be over.

I love that song (California Dreamin') sure makes my Frank Sinatra 45 I am playing look boring ;)

I couldn't remember why people were sending well wishes for your friend Melissa, so I had to go back and read it. I'm sorry I missed it the first time, and add my wishes for a speedy recovery.

Now then, did you say you put balogna in your spaghetti? :p

Wow, still here.

Melissa, more wishes for your friend's speedy recovery.

Alan, now that you posted the lyrics, I think I do know that song.

It is getting cold here. Yuck! At least no snow yet but apparently the Almanac has predicted a winter worse than last year's.

I can't believe we're still here! :smooth:

 Melissa.....hope your friend has a speedy recovery.

I know the tune Alan!!! SB, you and LK should call me. I can sing it for you....and also the first verse of High Hopes for LK.

Gotta go and pick up the fundraiser items the kids sold for school. :wave2:

Good night Angels!

The whole AlabamaAlan family is going for haircuts tonight. (I have gone back into wooly mode, btw)

I'll look for y'all at a new home tomorrow.
