Our DD turned 2 in September and she is starting to potty train. DD4 wasn't accident-free until she was 3 1/2 so we're pretty excited that DD2 is getting the hang of it so quickly. We bought her a potty seat 2 weeks ago and showed her how it works. Until today, she would maybe tell us once or twice a day when she had to go, and she only made it to the potty seat about 50% of the time. Well, today she went EVERY TIME!:cool1: Her panties were clean and dry all day. She wore a pull-up for her nap (2 hours+) and when she woke up (DRY!), she proudly strolled over to her potty seat and peed!

Now, we leave for Disney in less than 2 weeks and I don't know how to handle this new-found skill. I don't think she has the control to "hold it" yet and I am worried about what to do in the parks. If were able to get to the bathrooms quickly, I don't think it will be an issue, but what is the appropriate thing to do when you are in line and kiddo says, "Mommy, I have to peepee!" Is is acceptable to have other family members "hold" your place while you answer the nature call, or do you just give up your place completely? I think she'll end up wearing pull-ups to help prevent any accidents, but I don't want to encourage her to use them so that we don't have to leave a line.

We weren't going to start actively potty-training her until after vacation to avoid such a scenario. She shocked us by doing this so quickly.:cloud9:

I'm not sure what other people would be completely okay with someone holding someone's spot to take a child to the restroom -- especially one that I think is new to the whole potty thing.

I'd put her in pull ups for sure. I'd also not stress over pt while at Disney, esp since she is brand new in the process. Take her potty often, take her before you get into a long line. Then you don't have to stress over her needing to go in the middle of your wait.

I'm sure someone else will mention this too, but you might want to bring some post it notes to cover the sensor on the automatic flushing toilets (which all of them are). It just might prevent your daughter getting suddenly freaked out by the toilet flushing without warning -they tend to be very sensitive, and sometimes the slightest movement on the seat will make them go off.

Lines in 2 weeks should not be too bad so that will help. I too think i would keep her in pull ups for the trip but take her potty as often as possible. one trick is to put the pull up on over her underwear so it is not like a diaper feel to her but it will protect her clothes in case of an accident. Carry extra uddies just in case. As for the line thing, i can not understand anyone being upset with one parent taking a toddler to the bathroom while the rest of the family stays in line. However as i said then lines should be short and your family might be through the lines before you return. I would go before any lines and hope for the best!!! Good luck.

Thanks for the input! I would hope that people would understand about the line thing. We chose the end of January specifically so there wouldn't be any lines, or at least short ones.

I also vote for putting her in a pull up.

Nothing worse then having an accident in the middle of the Magic Kingdom or on a ride itself.

Even if you do the underwear on first & then the pull up over it, just in case.

Also carry a change of clothes.

You never know where there will be a line or a long walk to the bathroom, etc.

Save your sanity & her the embarassment if there is an accident, and use a pull up this trip.

I am also going in 2 weeks jan 19th-36th. I also went last year at this same week. Some of the line were longer than I expected. For instance the flying Dumbos were a 90 minute wait.
We did run into a problem while in Epcot waiting for Illuminations to begin. My DD6 decided that she had to go to the bathroom. We had to wait in line for over 15 minutes. She was old enough to do that but I wouldn't expect a 2 year old to do that.

I remember back a few years when we went when my daughter was 3 1/2. I got into an argument with her because she did not want to go the the bathroom. She was to interested in all the excitement and didn't want to take time out to go. She would have held it until an accident if I didn't win the standoff in the bathroom, trust me it wasn't pretty, she has a mind of her own!
I think the pullups over the undies sounds like a great idea, I may do that next week with my DS3-he just trained in November.

We've started the pull-ups over the undies here at home. She slept last night (12 hours) and stayed completely dry. She woke up this morning, walked over to her potty seat and went!:faint: When we were getting ready to go shopping, I went to put the pull-up over her panties and she said, "No, mama. No diaper...I'm a big girl now!" She still ended up in the pull-up. She told me while we were at Target that she needed to go potty. We went in to use the "family restroom" (which I guess at Target, just means oversized) and I had to hold onto her to keep her from falling in! She tried to go, but to no avail. I figured she'd be wet by the time we got home. When we got home (3 hours after leaving) she was still dry. She went in and did her business! I cannot believe she is catching on to this so fast! Saturday, she was wetting and dirtying diapers and now, she is completely using her potty seat! We've been encouraging and praising her, but we haven't done anything to actively promote potty-training. I figured we'd wait until February. She has not had an "accident" since early Sunday morning. Here's hoping that this continues and I won't have to pack diapers for our vacation! pixiedust:
