You are aware Spirit is on the verge of bankruptcy- so much so that United is literally talking about the opportunities they see to serve communities that would be impacted by Spirit’s bankruptcy?

I’d skip hurricane season, if your friend is really budget constrained traveling during hurricane season sounds unwise as it takes money to shift your travel plans around.

I'm hoping she can find flights for under 1k. However, on Google Flights right now there is nothing under 2k total flying out Tues - Sat (nonstop since they have small kids and it would be a royal pain to have a stopover not to mention the potential delays and missing the connection).

Many of us live in areas that do not offer non-stop flights to vacation destinations. We did just fine taking stopovers with a small child. We had no choice. I wouldn't completely rule out a layover if it'll save some money, especially if you're trying to swing them a $220 character breakfast in a hotel.
