After reading another post it got me thinking, why is it that some people question others interests in going to Disney frequently or even more than once?

One rarely ever hears "oh, your going to the beach/mountains/camping (insert vacation type here) AGAIN?"

I never thought of this. I have friends who go to the beach every.single.year. and I would never say "you're going to the beach again??!!". these same peole have said "you're going to disney again?!" to me. They have even made comments like "there are lots of places to vacation, I would rather go to different places rather than just going to one place like disney over and over"- yet, you go to the same beach every year.

I usually just try to say, "this really works for my family right now". really hard for someone to argue with that.

That's a good answer Stacy. :thumbsup2

I think people think of WDW as being a bigger expense than it actually is (in comparison with other vacation destination). So they think you are spending thousands upon thousands of dollars every time you go ;)

Also there are the people who haven't been since the 80s and are not aware of everything WDW has to offer currently

Bottom line- there are Disney-minded people who *get* it and if you don't get it you probably never will ;) :rotfl:

good point! I know many families that are into camping. They go camping all the time during the summer and early fall. I never say "again??? why?? " as if they're nuts....even if I do think my idea of camping is a cheap motel. LOL

I started the other thread "because I want to..."

I told my bff this morning about my upcoming trip with dd. I got the "why???? what's the occasion??"

I simply said "there is no occasion. it's her school vacation and I want to take her" I did tell her how I have a lot of stuff going on right now and I've been focusing so much on ds and really want some alone girl time with dd.

She started in with the "why don't you take her somewhere different??? the mountains? universal? why is it always Disney?"

The mountains are too cold for us right now and she's too young for universal.

I simply replied "I regret that I haven't been available to my dd as I have to ds. I need to be a little girl with her and just have some special one on one time. Disney is the one place where the little girl in me comes out..easily. Sure, I don't NEED to go. But I WANT to."

She dropped it.

I think for some people, "Disney" is a ONE TIME thing. It's not something some people ever think of doing over and over.

I acutally have asked people why they are going to the same beach again or why they are going camping again.....but ONLY after they ask me "why are you going to Disney again?" They try to tell me its too expensive. So I asked my friend who goes to the beach every year how much she spends at the beach and she told me between $3000 and $5000. I said wow, thats a nice disney trip!!! then I commence to telling her about the price it takes for our family of 4 to go and how the dining plan works so well for our family and the cost of getting down there (we drive) and all the souvies and what not and its still less than the $5000 that she spends at the beach. She hasnt believed me yet!!!! I just dont get some people...

Some people really need to understand if this is something u want to do then why question it!
I know people that go to mexico every year, why, that never changes!!!
There is always something different we miss at WDW, granted we have only been there 2 times, it is still really neat and something we can do as a family and all enjoy.

I like camping but it is not ideal for everyone, and I get bored by day 2 of the boat!

We have an uncle who went to Disney once, in the middle of the summer. They did not make ADR's nor did they understand or use Fastpass. They did not hit the parks at rope drop and had no plan for the day.

They were miserable. They could not get a seat at any of the nice restaurants, it was very hot, and they spent a lot of time saying, "what do you want to do next?"

I cannot get him to take another Disney trip. We have told him about inexpensive trips with an itinerary, afternoon naps, and advanced planning but he just does NOT believe us and tells us...."It isn't like I didn't go, that place is nuts!"

When we are asked about going yet again, I often ask if they have ever been. Often they were there and had a bad experience or went many many years ago and don't understand that there are now four theme parks, two water parks, downtown Disney, and so many different resorts.

I like to think of it as an opportunity to share Disney JOY!

I will never understand why the announcement of a Disney vacation is like an invitation to criticize my decision making process. It has occured to me many times that these same people are spending more money going to places like the beach over and over again. It has also occured to me that some of them spend money on clothing in a manner that I never have; and many other things. My whole family has taken on a "not asked?Don't tell" policy. I'm very tired of the assault...but not tired enough to not go back to Disney!!!;)

Same here....we don't even talk about our upcoming trips anymore with people outside our Disney circles because I'd rather not hear it. :rolleyes1

Me, too. I'm done with hearing (with derisive tone): "You're going there, AGAIN???" Um, yes we are. And it is none of your business. :flower3:

Thats a good Idea.....Lets NOT tell everyone how wonderful Disney is and maybe they wont go and it will be less crowded when we do go!!!! Wow what a dream world....LOL

I distinctly remember when I was going on my last Disney trip (4 years ago now!!) with my partner - just the two of us, no children yet - several of my co-workers made comments like, "Why are you going there? I'd need a vacation FROM that place!" I just laughed it off and told them I LIKE Disney.

I think Disney has a reputation as a place kids like & adults simply tolerate. Therefore if an adult chooses to go to Disney multiple times (or at all if they don't have kids) they are weird. The beach, camping, etc. are more "respectable" vacations.

I always wonder that myself. Coworkers always make comments about our yearly trips to Disney and the ones that do it themselves truely understand why! The ones that dont always go camping or to the same beaches too!!! I dont get that though either. Wouldnt that be boring? To me it would anyway. Disney has SO MUCH to offer and at a price that beats going to the beach and spending a ton of money there. I would rather go to Disney with my family. It actually feels like a vacation that is worthy to us of our time and money :)

I personally don't care what people have to say about my vacations. Before Orlando, I used to go to Miami every year. And it was the same thing every year. Go in March to Calle Ocho (big Cuban block party), parrot Jungle, and Miami Zoo. BORING!! Same animals, and I can go to the zoo at home. Callo Ocho is always WAY too crowded and not kid friendly at all. Then in 2006 I was offered 2 days 3 nights free for Westgate. I was also offered US/IOA tickets for $25 for a 3 day pass. So I completely bypassed Disney, and at the end of the 3 days, I drove the 3 hrs to Miami. We had a better time in Orlando. Orlando it has been ever since. I get the "why Orlando"from my family all the time, since Cubans tend to stick to Miami. But it's my $ and I don't have to worry about anyone wanting to come with me. :) So it works out just fine for me.

I think people ask because the truly don't get it, and they want to understand. I can't think of anyone I know who has malicious reasons to ask that question. They think that we do the exact stuff over and over and over. Or they are like the pp who's family did nothing. My secretary took her family and they never even SAW EE. Let alone rode it.

Different strokes for different folks.

You clearly have not met my inlaws ;) :rotfl: They are definitely malicious about it because they want us to vacation with them and that is NOT happening.

My Mother gets this all the time from a co-worker (who was last in the world over 15 years ago). Ironically her co-worker spends a fortune on going to Nascar weekends every year!

Personally, I would rather watch DD on the Tomorrowland Speedway than watching Nascar :rotfl:

Well, i'd agree that there are some mean people out there. I don't think most people are mean though.:)
