so we know that for meal plan purposes a child is 3-9 and an adult is 10+

How does this translate when you aren't on the meal plan? If we go to Ohana, do we get to choose if our ten year old is an adult or a child? What about other restaurants? Can our 12 year old eat off the kids menu?

A 10-year old is a Disney dining adult whether you are on the dining plan or not, so, at AYCTE, buffets and dinner shows, everyone 10 and older will be charged the adult price. At a la carte TS, guests over 10 can, typically, still order off of the children's menu. My DS just turned 10 and he was offered both the adult and kids menu at all a la carte TS. At O'hana and HDDR, we had to pay the adult price for him. He eats more than I do, so I really can't complain!

1) Nope.
2) The person is listed as a adult on your resort room, so the person is a adult for meals.
3) At buffets, AYCTE, dinner shows, and character meals, the person will be charged the adult price regardless of how much they ate or didn't eat.
4) Sounds bad, but it is fair to everyone.

When we check into restaurants do we tell them? When I made the reservations I didn't add anyones name to it since on the app it doesn't ask for names when you book. We have one kid who is under 10 and one over. Do we mention it at check in?

They should ask. If they don't the server should ask. If the server doesn't ask you may want to make it clear that one of your kids is under 10.

Should be fine at most a la carte restaurants, but at fixed price/buffets/character meals/dinner shows, 10 and older pay the adult price, no matter what they order or how much they eat.

It's actually guests 3-9 and guests 10+, not kids and adults.

The question on age at AYCTE has already been covered. I just wanted to add that non-AYCTE locations, your 12 year old can order off of the kids menu if they want. I've ordered off a kids menu a few times myself when I've just wanted a small meal.

My 14 year old ate off the kids menu without an issue when he wanted a kids meal, he ordered off the adult menu when he wanted a meal that was on the adult me. Another time he just ordered a side.

Character meals and fixed price restaurants, if your child is 10+, they pay the adult price no matter how much or how little they eat.
