DisMom Princesses in training for the Princess 1/2

Hey Ladies,

How is everyone's training going? Mine has been pretty slow struggling to get back into the swing of things after vacations, but I ran today and boy did it feel good! Do we have any news on T-shirts?

Slow but steady! I signed up for a 10K on 9/25. Since my longest run so far is just about 4 miles I need to start adding some distance...

I haven't been on here in awhile-I went to some 'other' running sites and boy did they scare me! Talking about how I should be running a 5k in 25 mins-I'll never be there!
I'll stay here with you friendly ladies!

And I wanted to post that my mom and I did our 1st 5k ever-38.25, ave 12:40min miles! That's also the farthest we've ever run!

Good job on all the running ladies!! :)

Update on the 12 miler...didn't do it :sad1:. I am still beating myself up over it. In my head I think I knew I wasn't quite ready but in my heart of hearts I was hoping like heck, was told it was 3 hours, they started 20 minutes late, which leaves 2 hours 40 minutes and then was told by the trolly driver "you don't have a choice, it''s over!" which was also earlier then the promised time. If the darn nikeplus website would let me in, I could tell you exactly what time. Was so mad:furious: that I went home and ran 2 miles! and... had mudslides for dinner!! :drinking1My total mileage for the day was 13.08 with a pace of 13.30. Ran 10 then 1 something then 2.

I did learn from it though. #1 running in 80+ degree weather with humidity is tough, I struggled right from the start.
#2. Ran for the first time with a water belt that darn thing weighs 3 lbs with cell phone GU, gum, tissues, no wonder I felt like someone was pulling on the back on my shorts!!:lmao:
#3 I have a lot of training to do
Thanks for listening, I think I am going to go find a 1/2 to sign up for this fall

Hi ladies...I'm doing the Princess 1/2 in 2013!!! But I wanted to stop by and say...Good luck and keep up the good work. I havne't been a ble to read through all the posts yet, but I will be soon. I am really looking forward to hearing how yall's race goes in 2012! I know I will have a lot of questions for yall too! I will do my first 5k on October 1st!!! Yay! I hope yall are having a great day!!!

I got my first run in since we got back from Disney last Saturday. Went out yesterday morning after getting the kids on the bus. It was the first time I had run in about 2 weeks. I was a little worried how I would feel, but had no problems. Knee felt good, shin felt fine! Made it 3 miles. I got into a really good grove. I probably would have gone farther but I had to get home and shower to get to work.

My new orthotics came while we were away so I'm still getting used to wearing them for walking but hope they will make a difference with running. Today my shin was bothering me a bit, but nothing like before. I think the biggest problem was I didn't stretch enough after. I'm gonna try running with the new orthotics tomorrow and see how they feel. Next week I'm hoping I can increase to 4 miles.

How has everyone else been doing? Taryn-congrats on signing up for a 10K! :cheer2: I'm trying to find one around here to do in Oct or Nov, but there doesn't seem to be too many, lots of 5Ks and a few half marathons.

Hi all,
I have been running for about a month and just signed up for the family 5K during marathon weekend this week. I can't believe I did it. My DH and his friend are running the marathon and dh's best friend is doing the goofy. This will be our third time watching the guys run the disney marathon so I decided to finally jump in myself. My 11yo son joined cross country at school so I thought why not? I have not told anyone what I have done yet and now that I have registered for my first 5k, I better keep running! I found this thread and it really made me smile.

Good luck to all in your training. Let me know if anyone else is running the 5K marathon weekend?
:hippie: Thanks, Megan

Hey Hey! I've been away from the disboards for awhile BUT I have been super busy. We did a week at DisneyLand and then have been getting back to the swing of things with school for the kids, etc.

Aside from the week in California I have been at the gym a minimum of 5 days every since mid July. I have been running 13 minute miles, which is a vast improvement from my 15 minute ones a few weeks ago. In addition to the 3 days of running I am also doing 2 yoga per week, 1 Zumba, 1 Toning and 1 spinning. I am toning things that should have been toned long ago- I neglected myself SO much after my last baby and now that is done! I'm mad at myself in some ways that I thought it was acceptable to keep buying larger clothing but I am so glad that I am making changes.

Oh and in California I happened to visit the Health and Fitness Expo for the Disneyland Half Marathon that was going on. It was SO inspiring! Lots of cool informative booths and sparkly headbands, tutus.....so much fun. It was being held at the DisneyLand Hotel and we were at the Grand Californian so it was a short walk over. The crowds were huge!

Just signed up for this one :) I think I have gone crazy. I will be doing the Wine & Dine 1/2 in 2 weeks, then the Marathon Relay and Tinker Bell 1/2 in January so why stop there, right?

Here's to hoping that my legs agree with all these races!

Hi everyone - I can hardly believe I am going to do this - have NEVER run or done ANYTHING even remotely like it before...not sure what came over me one day when I happened to see something about this Princess 1/2 - but I got a friend and we signed up, got our flights booked and will prob book our hotel today or tomorrow - We are both extremely nervous about being "swept" as we are both overweight. We have started the Galloway training - so far so good...but we are slow. Walking at only approx 4.0 on treadmill and can only jog for approx 30 secs every 3rd. minute @ 5.0. We have a long way to go....Hope I did not talk her into something we cant do???

How has everyone been doing? It's been kinda quiet over here. Welcome Dreamer2012. You can totally do it. Yesterday I ran 4.5 miles at about a 13 mm pace. I'm pretty happy with that. I'm planning on adding a mile a week. If I can keep that pace I think I will be ok to stop for pictures.

I'm doing the first leg (4.8 miles) of the Wine and Dine in 1.5 weeks and just signed up to do the Princess 1/2. The Princess 1/2 coincides perfectly with our Disney family trip. Figured I might as well get up at 3 am :faint: and do the 1/2 our first day there! Ive been running consistently since June and looking forward to training in cooler weather.

Welcome!

I am doing the Wine & Dine as well :) Congrats on signing up for the princess half. Everyone here is great and will provide plenty of friendship and encouragement!

You can also join the "official" discussion here as well :)

I just registered today for the Princess 1/2. I run 3 to 4 times/week and my longest run so far has been 7.25 miles and I've only been running on a regular basis since about April, I figure I can train myself to get to the 13.1 miles.

I went my farthest distance tonight. 5 miles. Getting closer to 13.1!

Great job! Be sure and increase your mileage gradually (no more than 10% each week) -- your body will thank you and you will avoid injury!

You will be comfortable with a Half before you know it, and you have plenty of time to get there :cheer2:

Thanks for the tip. I've been trying to add a mile a week. So I'll do 5 miles 2x this week then go to 6 next week. Do you think that is too much too quick? I've had enoigh injuries and certainly do not want any more!

A mile a week is pretty aggressive -- I'm not saying you can't do it, but I would be very aware of my body -- and I wouldn't do it every week, even if you increase by half a mile a week (i.e. take 2 weeks to get from 5 to 6), you will see real progress. You also don't want to do that all at once. Most training plans would have you do two weeks of increase, then a cut back week to a mile or two less, then back to the increase.

The very most important thing is to listen to your body. It will tell you if you are trying to do too much too soon.

Thanks. I'll try spreading it out more. Went out this morning and only did 4 miles. The humidity was kicking my butt, and I don't think I was hydrated enough. I gotta remember to still drink plenty of water on the days i don't run.

Hi everyone!! I'm in for the Princess 1/2! I'll be doing the Tinkerbell 1/2 before that so I can get my coast to coast medal as well!!
I started running back in March of this year. Joined a running clinic to complete my 5k, 10k and now almost finishing the 1/2 marathon clinic. This weekend will be the home stretch of 21.1k run  I am the slowest person in the clinic right now, looking just to finish. I am planning to repeat this clinic so hopefully I'll be faster the 2nd time around. I look forward to meeting everyone at the race!!
