I am not sure how to spell it.
What exactly IS dislexia?

My parents think I might have it.
Sometimes when im talking, or when im typing, I say things backwords or type them weird.

Like today, I saw a cookie with an elephant on it.

I said, "Thats a pretty really cookie!"

I meant to say "Thats a really pretty cookie."

and yesterday i was talking on msn about the song 100 years.

well i said "I like year 100 song"

Im confusing myself.

What is dislexia?

I asked my mum and she said it's refered to as word blindness, so when you're reading or writing, you might see the letters or words in a different order.

My sister, Mitzi, has dislexia. She really struggles with reading and spells alot of words wrong.

Mixing up letters and reading things backwards.

I actually can't type well cause of it. I spelled mixing wrong up there. haha. And there I spelled "spelled wrong"

You'll see me typing "teh" alot. Just mixing up letters.

I also say "Chinger Fickens" for chicken fingers.
I think it's funny when i mix up first letters of words.

My math teacher has a similar disorder, but she simply cannot copy notes.
Like if someone told her to write 'ice cream' she'd write completely random letters down.
She can't learn visually because things get all jumbled up when she tries to.

My boyfriend's little sister has it. She switches letter and word order around. If she concentrates really hard on what she's trying to say, it doesn't happen too badly.

dyslexia

it has a y in it.

i mix letters and words up sometimes, but that doesn't make me dyslexic. only if it happens a lot and really badly.

lol I think I might have a mild case of dyslexia.
I also mix up words and letters.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dyslexia

From that, it says "Dyslexia is a learning disability that manifests primarily as a difficulty with written language, particularly with reading and spelling. It is separate and distinct from reading difficulties resulting from other causes, such as a non-neurological deficiency with vision or hearing, or from poor or inadequate reading instruction."

I have mild cases of dyslexia and dyscalcula. I am not, however, dysgraphic.

My little sister is mildly dyslexic.
It's not really through speaking, though.
Like saying "I like Year 100 song," isn't an example of dyslexia.
If you were writing that sentence and wrote "I lkie 100 Yaers song," that'd be a better example of it.

Well, that's how it is for my little sister, anyway.
Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong :]

I didn't know I was dyscalculic till you told me what it was.

I'm not really sure that there's anything i can do for it though.

OP,
with my dyscalcula, I can't say numbers out loud. I can't read them. I can't say phone numbers.
All the numbers in my head make sense, and I can doextremly complicated math, I just can not verbalize what i'm doing.

I also can't understand numbers that i hear people say most of the time.

It's nice to know I educated you about something.

My dyscalcula is written. I constantly switch numbers around and put them in the wrong spots. I can work through problems in my head very fast, but when it comes to writing them down, I get so slow because I have to stop and re-read everything.

i have dyslexia. i'm constantly mixing up letter... also numbers.. heck i've mixed up numbers an letter at the same.. come very common ones are 'b' and 'd', and '6' and '9'. i've done that heck i've also messed up 'L' and '7'. that is a few of what i've dont there is alot more but bc i have dyslexia i also have the hardest time reading. i hate reading bc when i do i feel stupid so it is better for me to learn by visiual rather than reading... i can read just not that well... also i have a very difficult time spelling... dyslexia isnt just reading it also effects ur spelling also so yea...
so you can say i just have a problem with words

Yeah, that kind of sounds like you have a mild case of dyslexia...if it happens often enough, if it's just bee those two times you could just have been confused--happens to us all.

I'm somewhat dyslexic (or dyscalculic maybe?) when it comes to reading numbers.
I never really found out until I started working and had to deal with giving people change and stuff.
Like for instance, if their total is 11.57, I'll say 11.75, or if it's 15.68 Ii'll say 15.86 by accident. I REALLY have to think about what I'm saying to get it right.

But Cassidy you can probably get tested for dyslexia through your school if your parents look into it.

no it doesnt happen every once in awhile it happenes all the stinkin time... those where just examples... every time i read it happens so i dont really read.. when i do math a ALWAYS mix up the numbers like u said... 11.75 and say 11.57 yea i do that not just once in awhile i mean it happenes all the time... i dont read at all.. i read on the boards and on myspace but other than that i dont bc of it... math kicks my butt... i had to take a replacement subject for math bc of it ( homeschooled i can do that ) i was just told it was between mild and moderate but it happenes all the time so it is like GRRR LOL

I'm the exact same way! I always mix up the totals a wee bit. I always quickly glance at the screen though, so I probably don't read it carefully enough, then just spit out the number I see in any order I feel like it. ;)

I do that to. I usually say '6.35' instead of '6.53' but that's just me being stupid and not reading the screen carefully.

Hi, I was looking for information about taking my daughter to see the Disney Channel games this week when I saw your post. I am a Dyslexia/ADHD specialist and also have both. Once you have a diagnosis there are many little tricks you can learn how to help yourself and you will find that organization is the base of all of it. The more you learn the stronger you will be. Don't let it bug you or scare you... I didn't find out that I had a moderate case of dyslexia until I was in college. Always thought I was the dumbest kid in the class. Now I'm the only kid who got her doctorate!!!

My best friend has dyslexia. She mixes up letters when she reads. She is a really great writer though. My younger brother has dysgraphia. It's when you have trouble with handwritng, i think.

It's just the trouble with writing in general. (Printing, cursive). They're writing is often in odd sizes, and spaced wrong.
My brother has it I believe, but in today's world it's not a problem, because past grade school, there's not much work that's handed in that's done in hand other than tests.
