While Corelle is very durable and usually don't break when dropped but when we built our home, we put in tile flooring in our kitchen. I've dropped a couple of Corelle dishes and they have all shattered on the tile.
This was my experience too. I have always heard how durable Corelle is. Once, I was babysitting and the family had Corelle. One of the little kids made a comment on how Corelle breaks. I told them, "No, it doesn't. It's not supposed to break. Here, watch. . ."
I held up a plate in front of them and was about to let it drop, like I had seen in old Corelle commercials.
Both little kids put their hands over their ears and physically winced, waiting for the drop. That should have been a clue to me.

Instead, I was puzzled as to why they were acting that way.
I let the plate drop from my hand, expecting it to just roll on the ground like the commercials
that they no longer air. The loudest, earth-shattering crash on the floor occurred as the plate shattered and spread out all over the floor in a million pieces, a lot of them were tiny, tiny glass splinters that I worried if I would get them all.
I talked to the mom later, and she says that Corelle can get brittle after many years. The kids have witnessed the earth shattering breaks before which is why they knew to cover their ears.
I have no clue if it happened on a tile floor. I just know, nope, no Corelle for me.
