We're going to a bonfire on Saturday night, and we were asked to bring a dish. The only problem is that on the invite it says to bring dishes that need minimal reheating at most. But I would like to bring something of substance (not just a dessert or a snack, but a main course type dish).

If I can't come up with anything else, I will certainly just bring something cold, but I'd like to be more creative than that. I guess I don't need for my dish to be hot, but warm and hearty would be nice. I'm just at a loss...LOL

TIA for any ideas!! :thumbsup2

Crock-pot items-chicken& dumplings, chili, baked beans, veg. soup

(After you unplug it, if you tape the lid down, and wrap the crock pot in towels, then set the whole thing in a box...food will stay warm longer.)

No cook/dessert: S'more makings.

Is it in the middle of a field or somewhere where there will be outlets?

Cause if there are outlets, you could bring something in a Crockpot...Chili, soup, the yummy meatballs I tried at Publix this A.M.
Endless possibilities.

The Bonfire sounds great! Have fun.

Do you want finger food? Or something that needs utensils??

These are nice -I usually make them with the dinner rolls that are all connected in the package instead of hamburger rolls
MAKE AHEAD HOT HAM AND CHEESE
SANDWICHES
1/2 lb. butter
3 tbsp. regular mustard
1 sm. onion, grated
1 tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
1 1/2 tbsp. poppy seeds
1 lb. shaved ham
1/2 lb. Swiss cheese, shaved
16 hamburger buns
Soften butter and mix well with mustard, onion, Worcestershire sauce and poppy seeds. Spread on both sides of buns. Fill generously with ham and Swiss cheese. Wrap in foil and place in freezer or in oven at 275 degrees for 20 minutes. For those taken from freezer, defrost somewhat before heating or increase the heating time.

How about something like pepperoni bread or sausage and cheese bread. Those are good hot or warm or room temp, and easy to eat, no plates or bowls needed. My sister always brings them to our friend's Christmas breakfast, and they are always the first to go.

Thanks for the great ideas!!
See, I know that there's a barn that's been converted to a big lodge type atmosphere. And there's a big fireplace in the barn. I'm assuming there's electricity. It says that the big bonfire will be outside (obviously) and that there will be a fireplace, games, conversation and food inside.

So the bottom line is that I should find out about the electricity situation (how many outlets they have, etc.) But I really appreciate the idea about heating up the crock pot and then covering it in towels to keep it hot. If nothing else, I could definitely do that!
Thanks!! :thumbsup2
