Disgusting! WTH is going on? / Teens whom beat people

It is sick, but I don't think it has anything to do with being a Florida teen.

Yes it's sick. But what's your point. Do you mean what is going on with Teens in general, or do you really think it has to do with Florida?

I think it's what going on with Teens in general. But, anything that attracts LOTS of people, like Florida does, will attract LOTS of all kinds of people - exagerating the bad along with the good.

I think the OP was just giving us an idea of what the thread was about, not "what's going on with Florida teens?" at least that's how I read it.

I think it's yet another sad example of the state of our country. Unfortunately, it doesn't surprise me but it does certainly sadden me. :sad1:

Disgusting.

This is what happens when parents stop being parents and start being best friends. I'm friends with my son, but I'm his mother first and foremost. I make the rules and dole out the consequences. He knows that and respects it.

Too many kids these days are coddled. They have everything handed to them. The don't "earn" anything. They feel they are entitled to whatever they want. They have no respect for anything -- including themselves in many cases. They have never experienced consequences for their actions, therefore they feel they are above the law.

These kids need DawnCT to teach them a thing or two!!

ETA: I didn't take the OP as a dig at Florida teens, more on teens in general.

I don't think the OP was trying to single out all Florida Teens as a whole but just making a short concise reference to the story. I caught the meaning of the thread just because I heard the story this morning on the radio and was titled Florida teens beat man blah blah blah. In the national press it seems the words "Florida teens" start most of the reporting.

Well, sorry but you did single out Florida teens.
As far as this being a reflection on the world today, if you think these kinds of things are new and never happened before you are mistaken. News just spreads faster now.
I agree that some parents are really lacking the ability to parent and these kinds of things are a direct consequence. In my opinion, these kids parents should be in trouble as well. If they are not responsible for their children's behavior, then who is?

No, I did not.

By putting, in paranthesis (Florida Teens) it referred to the story.

Be sure to write to these (and many other) newspapers as they do the same thing, in their articles. They must be singling them out as well.

This was hardly what my original post was about - but thats for taking a spin on it.

I was surprised and shocked by this story (I saw it on the news this morning). What I found unbelievable was that the teens didn't do this just once or twice, but at 3 separate locations. How does one develop so much aggression and hostility? Certainly I hope they are appropriately punished, but even more I hope they get some professional counseling to help them deal with whatever issues lead them to act out like this.

I dont get it. It freaks me out....

Where has human compassion gone? How could you "get off" on this? And to continue to do it??? Shows no remorse, no reget....

So terribly, terribly sad.

This is very sad. Unless I missed it, the article didn't give any reason why they did this. Not that there is a good reason anyways, but it just seems as though they were bored and this was something to do. :confused3

I feel sorry for the parents. We don't know the family situation. Sometimes you can seemingly do everything "right" as a parent, spend 17 or 18 years raising them to the best of your ability and then this happens? I don't get it. Sad story all around. :(

Desensitization to violence, at the extreme. We see many levels of that desensitization every day, everywhere, by many people, though the youth probably moreso.

Desensitization I understand -- sometimes I fear I suffer from it. However, from watching the one video, it's hard to understand how someone can generate the aggression the one teen showed. I can't describe the video except to say the kid looked like a savage attacking some prey. He was leaping and smashing with such force. Being desensitized to violence is one thing, but developing this level of aggression is bizarre. It showed both teens starting to attack, but one of them quickly ran away. However, the other was like some sort of wild animal.

I just think there's more here than just too much video game/TV violence. The word "savage" hardly begins to describe his actions.

Yes.... it was disturbing, to say the least.

Not an angry-way. Very animal-istic.

Gives me chills.

That's what I am having trouble grasping. How can a teen develop or generate that much aggression on repeated occasions? I don't condone what they did -- it was incredibly horrible. But there's something that caused this anger to build and something that triggered it.

What frightens me is how this is happening with teens more and more. I wonder if there were any signals or signs that something this violent was in the making. There is no excuse for their actions, but it's hard for me to believe this was done on a lark.
