We just had our baby a few months ago & like idiots we registered with Target - should have known better right there-ANYWAY went today to swap diapers from size 2 to size 3...NOT return -just change the size & they wouldn't do it without a drivers license (I didn't have mine since I didn't drive - dh did) AND because we've had 3 returns ---ALL baby items - I know @ least 1 time diapers they wouldn't use dh's license - it's been blocked.

WHAT??!?!?!

SO it doesn't matter if you're registered with them for baby -or wedding or anything they are still gonna flag your license & only allow 3 returns without a receipt & that's it.

HELLO??? Don't the majority of folks return more than 3 items???

I certainly will be sharing this info w/everyone I know - including my sil who's currently registered.

SO needless to say we couldn't swap the size - we'll just go to Walmart instead -

So we are finished shopping at Target if Walmart doesn't have it or some other specialty store we'll do without it....

Sounds frustrating...

But after hearing your frustration, I'm going to try to remember to tape the gift receipt to any registry item I buy at Target (or any other store, actually) so that my friends won't have to go through the same aggravation.

Target has always been upfront about their sucky return policy though - you get three returns without a reciept. Babies R Us and Toys R Us have jumped on board with sucky return policy and won't be taking any without a reciept now.

I always pay on a card there so I can have them look it in case I lose the reciept.

Sorry they weren't more helpful, they could have at least let you exchange them.

They do this now because soooo many people were taking advantage of the return policy at Target. I think it's more than fair.

Also, Wal-Mart does the same exact thing, but I think it's 5 returns/exchanges in a year with no receipt.

You can print off the gift registery and return it using the reg. Any one that tells you different doesn't know what they are doing.

Did you return them at Wal*Mart? They wouldn't have a problem.

hmmmm....return with a receipt - what a novel concept.

OK - I'll stop the sarcasm - there are so many dishonest people in this world. People scamming stores by returning stolen items drives the cost up for the rest of us. They have to draw the line somewhere. Sounds like you need to obtain a State ID card (ours are issured by the DMV) so that you can proove who you are.

It sucks, but there isn't anything you can do about it. Maybe sell the diapers on ebay and buy the ones you need.

Target gives a gift receipt with each purchase, so if you are giving something as a gift from there, the recipient should be given the receipt.

I went to Walmart the other day to return 3 items, 2 of which i had a reciept, the most expensive one ($50.00) I did not have a reciept for. They refunded all 3 purchases in cash including the one with no reciept....

This policy frustrated me too. But, they usually will trade out a size of something without a problem. Exchanges are supposed to be from the same dept. and can be done without a receipt. I'm pretty sure your store is stricter or you got someone that doesn't know what they are talking about. I'm afraid I would have asked to talk to a manager.

Yes, that CAN be done, however, the OP doesn't have a DL and her husband exceeded the amount of returns he could have without a receipt in a one year period.

Wow...never knew about the return policy, I do understand why though. I will make sure I get a gift receipt every time now...thanks!:thumbsup2

Maybe you can call the people up that gave you the gifts and ask them to exchange it for you or get a receipt?
I think you can do it after the fact...but I could be wrong.

I went to Gap Kids to exchange something for size only..6 slim to a 6. They were a gift for DS's bday and he didn't rec a receipt. Gaps new policy is no returns/exchanges w/out receipt. They will mail you a merchandise credit, if you do not have a receipt...period, that's it. Well, that does no good for me, who is going on DCL in 1.5 weeks and needed to change the size of the khakis for DS!!

Don't blame Target, blame the shoplifters & scammers who have forced them to make such a tough return policy. That is who disgusts me, especially after dealing with them on a daily basis for 3 years.

I have no problem with Target's Return policy.

Sounds like they were willing to look you up, but you had no photo identification. Though you don't drive, I think all states issue ID cards.

If it keeps more of the dishonest lot out--then good for them.

What you were doing wasn't dishonest--but unfortunately, due to the dishonesty of others is why Target's policy is as restrict as it is.

A wal-mart we went to in Las Cruces, NM will not give cash returns without a receipt. Exchanges with a receipt are only for the exact same item. In our case--it wasn't a sized item, so I do not know how they would have handled a need for a different size. I was very mad b/c our wal-mart in Florida doesn't have that policy and unfortunately they do.

So be advised--some Wal-marts are just as strict as Target.

If you can't exchange the diapers, maybe think about taking them to a local charity. I know homeless shelters, etc are always looking for donations.

agnes!

Another way of shoplifting---People will buy something then throw out the receipt near the store---Another person will go thru the trash for receipts then go into the store and find the exact item listed on the receipt-Steal it---Then they will "return" it for the cash

I couldn't believe that one.

I'm sorry you had such a hard time--I am always returning stuff at my walmart--I will buy it then think..We don't really need it and return it--I'm glad noone has said anything yet

Thanks for letting me vent !

Sorry for the misunderstanding - I DO have a drivers license I just didn't have it on me -dh drove today so I didn't take my wallet - just had the diaperbag w/everything we needed (so I thought).

My main frustration with Target is the fact that they suggest you register for gifts & that you can return things easily - BUT you can't even if it's on the registry they still track it -so once you get the 3 on your license that's it.

I plan to go to Walmart tomorrow & swap them - all I want is a bigger size, not any $ back.

And yep - I asked for a manager - & the girl said she was a manager - she's just a customer service manager though - & I didn't feel like arguing anymore w/the 3 kids in tow.

I was in Wal-mart today to return an item and the lady in front of me was trying to return a DVD. She had the receipt and it was NOT opened, she had simply picked up the wrong title when she purchased it. The girl behind the counter said it was a title for same title swap only. What? lol...what would be the point of returning an UNOPENED DVD for the same title?
