Robinb I didn't say her children were scarred for life.

The OP doesn't seem to realize that her overreacting probably ruined the day for her children. That will stand out in their memories.
"Stand out in their memories" is pretty darn close to "It's something they will never forget!!!!".

You can make a point without using someone's kids to do it. That's a line that I don't cross and it's ammunition that shouldn't be used. In addition, the insinuation that she is a bad parent because "her overreacting probably ruined the day for her children" is also pretty darn close to a personal attack.

FWIW, we don't even know her kids were at the check-in when she was looking for her camera.

I don't think anyone called the OP a bad parent. However, she *did* say she was crying and felt sick about it *all day long,* so obviously her children would have picked up on that that.

We don't know if it had any effect on them whatsoever, but I'd imagine seeing your mommy crying all day long while at Disney is a little distressing!!!

I am sorry that happened. You sound a lot like me when it comes to pictures and memories. I guard my camera with my life only because I know that mhy son will never be that age again and I can never recapture those moments. Others think I'm silly for obsessing, but I always need to know where my valuables are- and I check often. We live in a world where not everyone is honest and that is sad. I am so glad you got the camera back and hope you had a wonderful trip despite how you were treated that day.

OP, I'm glad you got your camera back. If it were me, I'd consider myself very lucky and send a letter of praise for those who went out of their way to find my camera when really they could have done absolutely nothing. Let's face it. You were in panic mode (I'm not saying this was wrong) and you expected everyone else to be in panic mode too. Instead of indifference, would you have felt better if the CMs faked concern?

Just a couple of points:

1. I don't understand filing a police report. Your camera wasn't stolen; you lost it.

2. If your day was ruined, I'm sorry. However, I don't understand how you can blame that on anyone else.

3. Violetsmom, apparently you have to post 603 posts before you can criticize anyone? :earboy2: Don't listen to them. Your opinion as a newbie is just as valid as the so called "experts".

4. Pirate Pete, you made chocolate milk come out of nose. So sorry about the loss of your family's matching, vacation-only super dooper underwear. :guilty:

OP, for your own sanity, I think you need to get over this. It all ended well and I hope that you can stop crying over spilled milk. Nothing is accomplished by continuing to be upset.

Like many pps said, I too think you should be very grateful that the AKL was responsible when they found your LOST item and kept it safe and unharmed!
It's really ridiculous to be so dramatic over a situation that turned out in your favor.

One good thing about digital cameras is that the pictures can be uploaded to a computer. We brought our laptop and uploaded our pictures frequently so we wouldn't have to worry about them.

That's why I don't post much anymore.....personal attacks are pretty common place.

There are two ways to look at this and instead of taking the OP at her word that she left it on the table and then it didn't make it to the lost in found which would mean foul play, everyone attacks her. I thank her for her post even if I do or do not agree with how she handled it, I can take what I need from it and use it on a future trip. I knew this thread would end up like this.

I actually did have camera stolen which I blame myself for and I definately know how awful I felt that those pictures and movies were lost. We don't know at all that her children knew what was going on, mine didn't......Lighten up people.

LvsTnk, I'm not sure what personal attacks you are talking about. Most people were happy that the OP got her camera back but can understand the situation from Disney's point as well. There is a difference between personal attacks and opinions and I think this thread has actually been handled very well by all those who have responded.

Most of us have had experience with leaving things behind in public places so most of us have opinions about it. I'm sure the OP considered that before she posted.

Listen to how this sounds "I should be grateful that they locked up my lost camera." What else shold they have done given it away??? So what is it you do with lost items you fine???

Their proceedure at AKL(per managment) and I am assuming all WDW resorts is to put lost items "after hours" in the "locked drop box" specifically to have items in a safe place that need to got to L&F in the morning. They first CM checked there saind"nope it's not there, there is no other place it could be, its gone, fill out yellow form." If they would have put it there in the first place that would have been the end of it. I wonder if I ever would have seen it again if I didn't pursue it. Since some posted leaving a camera at Boma's, going the next day and having a CM open at draw with 5 cameras and fish theirs out it must be common practice.

I posted this thread because I could have kicked my self for not being more careful as I am when I travel elsewhere. It is also posted for others who are in simular situations not to "give up". I only knew of "several different places" it could be from a Diser who posted a year or so ago when the same thing happened to him at the Poly.

That this has turned into a personal attack tells me people have way to much time on their hands, turn your energy to something more useful because this is petty.

Happy holidays!!

Sorry, but I just didn't see anything like "I am so stupid, I could have kicked myself for leaving my camera sitting there."

Instead it was like, "AKL is so stupid-- they wouldn't do a thorough search of the resort fast enough for my liking after I accidentally left my camera behind."

I think we all sympathize with lost cameras and pictures and even your sense of desperation.

But I, and apparently a few others, just can't understand your insistence that your little lost camera was such a significant problem that the GM of the resort should have to get involved or that they should somehow open up locked restaurants at your whim.

robin I never, never said the OP was a bad parent. The OP said she was crying and sick all day over the situation. My children are grown but I know if I had been crying and sick all day while on a family vacation they would remember it. I did get sick and had to be hospitalized while on a trip to WDW my then 4 year old (18 now) still refers to it as the "scary vacation".

Forgive me for attempting to turn this thread positive but isn't or wasn't there some posts where there are cards that people started giving to CM's for going the extra mile? It seemed to me that many of the CM's that received these small thank you's were even more motivated to give excellent customer service and hopefully this good attitude would spill over onto CM's that were becoming "indifferent". I know that everyone expects a lot from Disney and should but at the same time anyone who deals with the public on a daily basis knows how any job can turn into drudgery withhout a thank-you once in a while. Our attitude as guests many times directly influences how we are treated by our hosts.

Whohoo!!! Leaving in 32 hours for CBR!!!!!! :cool1:

An opinion would be "if it were me" or "this is what happened to me"....not you should put your life in perspective, and how awful for your children, that's personal. Yes, I am sure she will consider her posts very carefully next time.

I have had many tragic things happen in my life, every time I go to the world I know that it could be the last for my DS, but I would never make a poster feel bad for the experience they think they had.......Just my opinion.

Oh, and by the way there was also a thread on the theme parks board on how some CM's thought how stupid guests were. We also give small tokens (we give out keychains and pens from the Disney Store in downtown Chicago) and write letters about CM's that have gone beyond what is expected. That is what we love about WDW it's happened sooo many times and makes it the most magical place.

Well, I think it may be time to call it a day on this thread. I think it's clear that there are different perspectives on the incident and we'll leave it at that.

You'll find passionate opinions on the DIS and this thread is no exception---
